The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) turned the tide north of Pokrovsk, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) had committed most of their reserves to cut off and partially encircle the RFAF’s breakthrough. However, the RFAF not only held their ground, loosening the AFU’s grip, but also began to dislodge the Ukrainians from the villages they had recaptured in a counter-offensive. According to Russian sources, by the evening of September 28, the reinforced units of the RFAF Central Group not only recaptured the village of Novoye Shakhovo but also took full control of the village of Nikanorivka, which the Ukrainian army was trying to use as a springboard to continue to blockade and encircle Russian units, at the so-called Dobropolsky “salient”.
Earlier in the AFU counteroffensive, they had launched a “deep-drill” attack on the foot of the Dobropolsky “salient”, attacking Nikanorivka from the west and Pankivka from the east, leaving a corridor of about 2.5 km wide controlled by the RFAF. It could be said that this “throat” was then completely surrounded by AFU firepower. “In a dangerous situation, but based on superiority in firepower and numbers, the commander of the Central Army Group not only rotated his forces, but also gathered resources for a counterattack, which led to the recapture of the village of Nikanorivka,” the DIVGEN channel said. The recapture of Nikanorivka, which allowed the RFAF to “clear the way” from the north of the town of Rodynske all the way to the Kucherov Yar and Zolotoy Kolodez area, stabilized and expanded the supply corridor for the Russian troops in the furthest part of the Dobropolsky “salient”, namely Kucherov Yar and Zolotoy Kolodez. As analysts say, there is currently no solid front line at the Dobropolsky salient; as both sides are operating in small groups and are actively using FPV UAVs and artillery. Meanwhile, the Russians are gathering forces to continue their breakthrough north of Pokrovsk.
According to the Strana.ua publication, Konstantin Mashovets, coordinator of the group "Ukrainian Information Resistance", directly accused the Ukrainian military leadership of "blatant lies". According to him, the situation of the AFU on the front line is rapidly deteriorating and is approaching disaster, especially near Dobropillia. Mashovets asserted that the statement by the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, about the Russian troops being surrounded in the so-called "Dobropillya quagmire" was false. The statement that the AFU had recaptured Novo Shakhove, taking it back from the RFAF, was also untrue. Mr. Mashovets also said that the Ukrainian media is currently being “manipulated” about the situation near Dobropillya, where General Syrskyi risked withdrawing troops from other fronts such as Sumy or Kupyansk, and “all-in” put all reserve forces here. According to the expert, the encirclement of Russian troops north of Pokrovsk “does not exist”. The DeepState channel, a group openly affiliated with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry , has also been criticized for reporting that the village of Novoye Shakhove was allegedly recaptured by the AFU. In fact, the situation of the AFU in this area is getting worse and worse; all the efforts of General Syrsky to improve the situation have been unsuccessful, Mr. Mashovets stressed. “I cannot believe why anyone would lie about the situation at the front. Novoye Shakhove has not been liberated. There is no encirclement of the Russian troops in the Dobropillia area.
Moreover, the situation continues to deteriorate for the AFU. General Syrskyi refuses to withdraw reserves from other directions, and now the situation there is deteriorating. That is why, for him, “everything is fine” near Dobropillya: the Ukrainian army is advancing, and the Russians are “sitting in a cauldron”. Mashovets has exposed the complete contradiction between the information from the AFU and pro- Kiev media and the real situation. Currently, the Ukrainian media and social media channels are spreading false stories about "Russian military losses" and "Russian stew". Another Ukrainian publication reported that the results of the October 3 fighting were not very positive for the AFU. Several RFAF attacks were recorded in sensitive areas on the front line towards Kiev. Observers of this publication wrote that the RFAF's advance was accelerating.
In fact, after several days of stalemate north of Pokrovsk, in recent days the RFAF Central Group has turned the situation around, stopping the AFU counter-offensive and destroying a large number of Ukrainian troops that broke through. The AFU reserve forces that were redeployed are almost exhausted and have suffered many losses. However, the Russian troops here have not yet resumed their offensive.
