Yen Bai Electricity Company is managing and operating 7 substations/11 transformers with a total capacity of 410 MVA and 484.53 km of 110 kV lines, with 24 transmission lines; the medium voltage grid is over 2,820 km, with 50 transmission lines; 3,058.2 km of low voltage lines of all kinds. The whole province currently has 18 hydropower plants transmitting to the 110 kV grid with a total capacity of 508 MW; 15 small hydropower plants transmitting to the 35 kV grid with a total capacity of 76.3 MW.
In 2024, Yen Bai Electricity Company provided new electricity to 8,197 customers. The total newly registered capacity and increased capacity of customers reached 26.46 MW. It was a year of fluctuations and difficulties when the province was heavily affected by storm No. 3 and the electricity industry was no exception. However, with the efforts and quick troubleshooting of staff and employees, the Company quickly restored 936 out-of-power transformer stations, 9 stations with problems, replaced 33 medium-voltage poles and 302 low-voltage poles, ensuring stable power supply for people and businesses. At the same time, the Company has accelerated the implementation of 110kV projects being implemented in the province to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the current context.
On the other hand, the Company has signed a commitment to save electricity with 21,251 customers, belonging to 4 customer groups: administrative and career, public lighting, service business, industrial production. At the same time, spreading the spirit of saving to all customers in many diverse forms such as: through the Earth Hour Campaign, promoting propaganda in schools and launching the "Family saves electricity" movement, signing an agreement to participate in adjusting the load with large customers... By the end of 2024, the total amount of electricity saved in the whole province will reach 26.7 million kWh.
As a company specializing in the production of fillers and additives for the plastic industry, exporting to countries in the Middle East, Europe, America, China, etc. Yen Bai European Plastic Joint Stock Company has a large electricity consumption, electricity accounts for a high proportion in product cost. In recent times, the Company has actively cooperated with Yen Bai Electricity Company to implement synchronous solutions on management and technology to use electricity economically.
Mr. Pham Van Dau - Director of Yen Bai European Plastic Joint Stock Company said: "An effective solution that the Company has implemented to save electricity is to proactively adjust the load on production lines. At the same time, during the peak hot season, the Company also works directly with Yen Bai Electricity Company to develop a plan for electricity use and a plan for regulating capacity; regularly check and maintain electrical equipment to avoid power loss. Through participating in load adjustment programs, the Company's electricity costs have decreased by 20 - 25% compared to before".
In 2025, the reserve power source of power plants in the Northern region is still weak, the risk of extreme incidents can cause a capacity shortage of up to 50% compared to demand. In the first 3 months of 2025, the maximum capacity in Yen Bai province reached 292 MW, an increase of over 12% over the same period in 2024. The commercial electricity output in the first quarter reached 331.7 million kWh, an increase of 10.32% over the same period in 2024. The growth rate of commercial electricity in the area in 2025 is forecast to be high at over 10%. In order to ensure safe, continuous, stable power supply, minimizing impacts on production, business and people's lives, Yen Bai Electricity Company has proactively developed a power supply plan in accordance with regulations of competent authorities.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy - Deputy Director of Yen Bai Electricity Company informed: Yen Bai Electricity Company continues to implement technical solutions and measures, build reasonable and flexible electricity supply methods. Continue to apply science and technology, resolutely carry out digital transformation in all fields to bring the best and most convenient services to electricity customers. At the same time, the Company directs its affiliated Power Companies to coordinate with localities and mass media agencies to propagate and widely disseminate measures to use electricity economically, safely and effectively to electricity customers with the goal of thoroughly implementing electricity saving at unit headquarters, ensuring a 10% reduction compared to the same period in 2024; promote propaganda, guidance and support for the installation of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power in office buildings, businesses and households. In particular, during peak months (from May to August 2025), the minimum savings level must reach 15%.
Along with that, the electricity sector will strengthen coordination with functional forces to raise awareness in complying with safety regulations in electricity use for people and strictly handle violations of electrical safety corridors... Continue to strengthen and repair the power grid, contributing to ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid system.
