At the press conference on June 3, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment (MARD), said that implementing the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 71, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy chaired a meeting to study the goals and solutions to promote durian in the Central Highlands, worked with the General Department of Customs of China and achieved positive results.
China is the main export market of Vietnamese durian.
China has recognized 829 more durian growing area codes and 131 durian packing facility codes of Vietnam; cleared 24 tons of frozen durian.
"The General Administration of Customs of China allows the continued export of Vietnamese durian to this market, does not impose suspension measures, does not require negotiations, and allows automatic extension of the Protocol document," said Mr. Tien.
That means, the Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for fresh durian exported from Vietnam to China on July 11, 2022, will automatically renew for a 3-year cycle without having to be re-signed.
Notably, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment focuses on groups of solutions for sustainable durian export such as: Controlling the cultivation process from water, medicine, soil, fertilizer; selecting and creating varieties; checking packaging facilities, growing area codes associated with digital transformation to trace the origin...
"Develop solutions to minimize risks and control cadmium-contaminated areas" - Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said. Along with that, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will review fertilizer imports; legal documents; focus on quality and productivity management...
Recently, Mr. Vu Duy Hai, General Director of Vinacam Group Joint Stock Company, sent an official dispatch to the Prime Minister . Vinacam requested the Prime Minister to direct the responsible agency to inspect and clarify the information about durian contaminated with cadmium due to Korean DAP fertilizer.
Specifically, according to Vietnamese standards, the cadmium content in DAP fertilizer in general and Korean DAP in particular when imported and circulated must ensure a maximum content of 12 mg/kg. However, in 2023, Mr. Hai said that this group officially issued Notice No. 98 to agents and customers to temporarily suspend the import of Korean DAP fertilizer until the quality is improved in accordance with Vietnamese law.
The reason is that the fertilizer supplier announced that it could not fix the cadmium content to the maximum level of 12 mg/kg, and confirmed that the content would be around the threshold of 28 mg/kg.
After that, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) sent an inspection team in conjunction with local market management to collect samples of Korean DAP in the areas of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai... and the warehouse at Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park.
However, Vinacam said it has sent documents to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment twice requesting the public announcement of the test results on the actual samples recalled in 2023 to have more basis to continue negotiating with partners importing DAP to Vietnam, but so far the request has not received a response.
