On October 6, Hanoi let students stay home from school to avoid storm No. 11.

On the afternoon of October 5, the Hanoi People's Committee held a meeting with departments, branches, communes and wards to discuss plans to respond to storm No. 11. Here, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai - Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment said that according to the forecast, from October 6, the city will have strong winds of level 4 - 5, with rainfall of over 150 mm in some places. Water levels in rivers and lakes are high, while many areas have been soaked for a long time, posing a risk of flooding and landslides. Notably, the whole city currently has more than 2,000 households flooded due to the impact of storm No. 10.

To proactively respond to storm No. 11, the city mobilized nearly 17,000 officers and soldiers of the army and police; more than 6,000 people from agricultural, drainage and tree-growing units; and more than 200,000 people in communes and wards to participate in the response. The forces were required to be ready to evacuate people, reinforce dikes, and protect the safety of key projects.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that the agency has just announced that students in the city will be off school on October 6 (Monday) to ensure safety. Accordingly, schools will temporarily stop teaching in person, switch to online learning, and continue to closely monitor weather developments to have appropriate adjustment plans.

The Department of Education and Training requires units and schools to proactively review facilities, equipment, records, documents, and relocate them to safe places; coordinate with local authorities in ensuring the safety of students and teachers, especially in areas at risk of flooding and landslides.
