On June 2, the Embassy of India in Hanoi held a press conference to introduce a series of activities in response to the 9th International Yoga Day (IDY).
Accordingly, in response to the 9th International Yoga Day, the Embassy of India in Hanoi will organize International Yoga Day in more than 35 provinces and cities of Vietnam, including prominent locations such as Fansipan peak (Sa Pa, Lao Cai ), Hoan Kiem Lake (Hanoi) and other locations across the country. More than 10,000 people are expected to participate in these events.
Speaking at the press conference, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Vietnam Sandeep Arya shared that yoga is a 5,000-year-old tradition of ancient India that combines physical, mental and spiritual activities to achieve harmony between body, mind and nature. To recognize the health benefits of yoga to people around the world , the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 every year as the International Yoga Day (IDY), following the call of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014.
Ambassador Sandeep Arya affirmed that Vietnam is a co-sponsor of the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on the establishment of International Yoga Day. Vietnam is also an important partner of India in promoting and celebrating International Yoga Day. The widespread popularity of Yoga in Vietnam shows a deep awareness of the benefits of practicing Yoga in Vietnam and its role in the deep cultural and people-to-people connection between the two countries.
With the theme “One World, One Health”, the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be organized by the Embassy of India in Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City in 35 provinces and cities of Vietnam. This year’s “opening” event with the theme “One World, One Health”, will be held in collaboration with the Thong Nhat Park Running Club on June 11, 2023 at Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi. The 9th International Day of Yoga will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the Martyrs Monument (near Ba Kieu Temple) next to Hoan Kiem Lake. In Sa Pa, activities in response to this year’s International Day of Yoga are expected to take place from June 23-25, attracting about 600-700 participants.

This year, in addition to the International Yoga Day, the Embassy of India in Hanoi also coordinated with partners to organize many activities to promote Vietnam - India cultural exchange such as screening Indian films in Vietnam with Vietnamese subtitles and narration, enhancing activities of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Hanoi, organizing Hindi language teaching, teaching Indian classical dance, introducing Indian culture in terms of art, history, and Buddhism./.
