On the morning of September 1, at Do Luong market, the shopping atmosphere was bustling from early morning. Children's clothing and footwear stalls were crowded with people choosing to buy. Ms. Duong Anh Nhung (Anh Son Dong commune) shared: "Yesterday, my family received 600,000 VND in Tet gifts from the State. For us, this is a very meaningful gift. Taking advantage of the day off, I took my children to buy clothes and shoes as a holiday celebration, and also to prepare for the new school year."

The joy not only came to families, but also to the traders. Ms. Tran Tuyet Mai - owner of a children's clothing stall at Do Luong market said: "Since the afternoon of August 31, the number of customers has been crowded, but this morning it has increased dramatically. Many families have just received Tet gifts, so they are taking the opportunity to shop for their children."

In many residential areas, the joy from the Independence Day gift was also transformed into family reunion meals. For example, a group of 7 families in Lane 54, Tran Trung Quang Street, Vinh Loc Ward, pooled money together to organize a solidarity meal.

Mr. Le Duy Hung (Vinh Loc ward) shared: "Each family contributed as much as they had, and together, it was nearly 4 million VND. We did not hire someone to clean the party, but went to the market and cooked ourselves to save money and connect with our neighbors."

In many rural areas, markets also become bustling. At Hoang Mai market (Hoang Mai ward), Mai Hung market (Quynh Mai ward) or Van market (Quynh Van commune), the scene of sellers and buyers is bustling.

Fresh food items such as pork, beef, chicken, and seafood consumption increased three times compared to normal days. Prices were generally stable, except for vegetables and seafood, which increased slightly due to limited supply.

According to a survey, good pork ranges from 110,000 to 150,000 VND/kg; chicken from 110,000 to 130,000 VND/kg; beef from 220,000 VND/kg; shrimp from 150,000 to 200,000 VND/kg; fresh squid from 200,000 to 350,000 VND/kg. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a pork vendor at Mai Hung market, said: "Normally, I sell about 150 kg of meat every day, but during this holiday, the consumption is 3 times higher. Prices are still stable, good meat ranges from 110,000 to 150,000 VND/kg."

In addition to meat, seafood such as shrimp and fresh squid are also in high demand, with prices increasing slightly from 150,000 to 350,000 VND/kg. Due to the weather, green vegetables have reduced supply, and their prices have also increased compared to normal days.

Increased purchasing power, positive signal for the market

Not only in traditional markets, on the occasion of September 2 this year, purchasing power at supermarkets, clothing stores, electronics and household appliances in Nghe An also increased sharply. On some central streets such as Le Hong Phong, Nguyen Van Cu, Quang Trung, etc., the number of customers coming in and out of fashion and electronics stores was 2-3 times higher than usual. Many units said that retail sales in 2 days (August 31 and September 1) increased by 30-50% compared to last week.

Shopping stimulus programs and big promotions launched at the right time create more attraction. From fashion, cosmetics, shoes to household appliances, electronic devices, all have discounts from 20 - 50%, along with gifts of gratitude on the occasion of the holiday.

“We had prepared inventory in advance, so when we launched the discount program, customers came in droves. Compared to last month, sales on September 2 doubled,” said Nguyen Duy Hieu, owner of an electronics showroom on Quang Trung Street.

However, according to retailers, the most important factor is that consumer sentiment has improved. The Independence Day gift from the Government has become a "push" for many families to spend boldly. In addition to buying essential items such as food and clothes for their children, many people also take the opportunity to buy additional household items, which they had previously considered because of cost concerns.

In fact, in many fashion stores, the number of customers choosing to buy in family groups is quite large. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Vinh Phu ward) shared: "The whole family just received Tet gifts, so I took the opportunity to take my children shopping for new clothes. Normally, I buy a few sets individually, but this time, I have money and there are promotions, so I buy more." This change in shopping behavior is considered by the business community as a positive signal, showing that consumer confidence has been somewhat restored.

In addition to urban purchasing power, the rural market has also witnessed a sharp increase in consumption. Not only fresh food, but also items serving students’ daily life and study such as school supplies, bicycles, and school bags are also selling well.

According to economic experts, the increase in purchasing power during the September 2 holiday has many meanings. First of all, this is an important test for the retail market after a long period of being affected by natural disasters and storms. When retail sales increase sharply, it not only helps small traders and businesses improve their income, but also contributes to stimulating production and circulation of goods.

“If this positive sentiment can be maintained, Nghe An’s retail market will be even more vibrant in the final months of the year. People are ready to open their wallets when there is an opportunity, and businesses are proactive in launching incentive and promotion programs. This is a positive cycle, creating momentum for the local economy to flourish,” said Mr. Nham Sy Thanh - Director of Lotte Mart Vinh supermarket.
