Artist Diem Trinh, 69 years old, overcomes illness, longs to perform on stage

Artist Diem Trinh said that about 8 years ago, she almost died twice due to traffic accidents. Since then, her health has seriously declined and she has suffered from many other diseases.

Artist Diem Trinh has tried to overcome her illness.

In 2020, after going to the doctor, specialists diagnosed her with an abdominal aortic aneurysm and two renal arteries. Her family took her to People's Hospital 115 (HCMC) for treatment.

She shared: "Those days, my spirit collapsed when the doctor said that the aorta in my abdominal wall was at risk of rupturing, and the hospital at that time required urgent surgery to replace it with an artificial artery.

The surgery lasted 7 hours and I had to be treated for a long time because the wound kept bleeding. The cost of the surgery was about 300 million VND, with health insurance it was more than 100 million VND. Thanks to the support of the "Mai Vang Nhan Ai" program, and the announcement, my friends and colleagues came to visit and continue to help me with my treatment."

Currently, artist Diem Trinh has returned to the stage, she joined director Hoang Tan, along with young actors of the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater to participate in the play "Give Me Your Child", put into performance in School Stage programs according to the plan organized by the Department of Building Lifestyle and Family Culture under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Center.

The small house in Binh Tan district is where artist Diem Trinh lives with her husband who is over 70 years old, her daughter and her grandchild. Her son is 31 years old and is working as a hired hand.

"For a long time, I have been the pillar of the family. In addition to working at the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater, when I was healthy, I participated in TV dramas. Since I got sick, I have been bedridden, not strong enough to perform, my family had to borrow money to pay for treatment. There were times when I thought I would not have enough strength to return to the stage anymore, but I still longed to perform and contribute. And the profession has fulfilled my wish, I have returned to the stage" - artist Diem Trinh said emotionally.

Artist Diem Trinh wishes to participate in performances and contribute to serving the audience.

Artist Diem Trinh has been an actress for nearly 50 years. After graduating from the School of Dramatic Arts 2, Faculty of Cai Luong, she performed in various troupes for more than 10 years. In 1976, she joined the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe, performing in two plays: "Nguoi Tinh Lat Xe" and "Duoi Hai Mau Ao". In 1989, she transferred to the Young Drama Troupe of director Meritorious Artist Bach Lan, then merged with the Cuu Long Giang Drama Troupe to form the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater today.

"After 3 surgeries, my condition has stabilized but I still have to limit heavy work. Every 2 weeks I go to the hospital for a check-up. My finances are tight but fortunately, thanks to insurance and donations from fellow artists and the "Mai Vang Nhan Ai" program, I have been able to fulfill my dream of returning to the acting profession that I am passionate about" - artist Diem Trinh said.

She has appeared in skits and TV series such as: "Love like a ray of sunshine", "Crystal is not easy to break", "Missed heart", "The summer region changes", "Love you so much, ferryman"...
