On the afternoon of November 11, in Tuy Hoa ward, the Department of Science and Technology held a meeting of the specialized Science and Technology Council to evaluate and accept the results of provincial-level science and technology projects.

Reporting at the acceptance meeting, Dr. Nguyen Thi Truc Mai said that during the project implementation, the research team improved and upgraded the main cassava variety KM419 by sexually crossing the main cassava variety KM419 with the promising cassava variety KM440 and the cassava variety C39 resistant to cassava mosaic disease to integrate disease resistance genes. At the same time, the cassava variety KM419 was upgraded by collecting hybrid seeds of 5 elite parent lines, selecting pedigree lines, and surveying a group of 27 varieties.
At the same time, the research team selected two cassava varieties KM568 and KM537 with high starch yield, resistance to major pests and diseases, and suitable for the province's ecological conditions. The team also built a demonstration model, trained and transferred technical advances in selection, breeding and suitable cassava cultivation processes for farmers in the eastern communes of Dak Lak .

According to Ms. Lam Vu My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, the project has completed the goal of creating a cassava variety with high starch yield, resistance to major pests and diseases, suitable for production conditions in the province.
The outputs of the project contribute to raising awareness of cassava industry stakeholders and farmers about cassava diseases. The project results also contribute to the academic results related to cassava for Vietnam and the world .
