According to Sport Bild , Wirtz confided to head coach Xabi Alonso that he only wanted to join Bayern Munich, despite the Spanish coach preparing to join Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 campaign, playing a central role in Leverkusen's unprecedented unbeaten Bundesliga campaign, helping the team reach the DFB-Pokal final.
Wirtz has scored 16 goals and provided 13 assists in 43 games in all competitions, enough to make Europe take notice.
