These days, fishermen in Tien Dien commune are enthusiastically going out to sea to catch seafood after many days of being stranded due to rough seas. Many fishing boats caught silver pomfret at the end of the season, so everyone is excited. Fresh silver pomfret fish are transported ashore. Fisherman Hoang Van Hien (Yen Ngu village, Tien Dien commune) excitedly said: " Taking advantage of favorable weather, I took the boat out to sea at 6 am. When I was about 2 nautical miles from shore, I discovered a school of silver pomfret fish, so I immediately dropped the net. After nearly 1 hour, the net was pulled up heavy, estimated to be nearly 100 kg of silver pomfret fish, earning nearly 10 million VND." To keep the fish fresh, fishermen select large fish, remove them from the net, put them in ice boxes before bringing them ashore to sell to traders.
At the end of the season, silver pomfret is purchased by traders at a high price, from 100,000 to 120,000 VND per kilogram. With good prices, fishermen actively stay at sea to make up for the days off due to unfavorable weather. According to fishermen here, silver pomfret fish start to appear from August to the end of October of the lunar calendar. Normally, silver pomfret fish appear after storms in offshore areas about 10-12 nautical miles from shore, fishermen have to go to sea from 3am, but in the past 2 days, the fish have appeared about 2 nautical miles from shore, convenient for catching, reducing costs. In recent days, each fishing boat caught an average of 60 kg - 80 kg of silver pomfret, earning 5 - 7 million VND/trip after deducting expenses.
“Compared to the beginning of the season, the current price of silver pomfret is twice as high, so fishermen just hope for calm weather and calm seas in the coming days so they can continue fishing at sea to increase their income,” said fisherman Tran Van Ha. Silver pomfret is being chosen by traders to buy because its meat is sweet, rich in nutrients, and popular in the market. Fish are purchased right at sea, helping fishermen earn income without having to worry about sales. A good seafood season and good prices not only bring joy because of improved living conditions but also motivate fishermen to go out to sea.
