(Baohatinh.vn) - The pineapple growing model in association with Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company has created a breakthrough in transforming the crop structure in Ha Tinh, contributing to bringing effective economic efficiency to local people.

Implementing the policy of converting crop structure and increasing economic value per unit area, since April 2024, Ha Tinh has boldly tested the pineapple growing model in association with Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company (Ninh Binh). Up to now, this model has proven to be outstandingly effective, bringing trust and sustainable livelihoods to local people.
A typical example is the model of Mr. Tran Van Cuong's family in Ky Hoa commune. In April 2024, Mr. Cuong rented 5 hectares of hilly land in Tan Son village and signed a contract to grow commercial pineapples with Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company. Realizing the potential, in March 2025, he continued to cooperate with the North Central Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology to grow an additional 3 hectares of MD2 pineapple variety.
Thanks to the application of strict technical processes from land preparation, seed selection to care, 8 hectares of pineapple of Mr. Cuong's family have grown well. The first crop yield is expected to reach more than 40 tons/ha, bringing in a profit of over 160 million VND per hectare. Mr. Cuong (far right) excitedly shared: “Previously, growing acacia or cassava on Ky Hoa hill land had very low economic efficiency, and was unstable according to market prices. When switching to pineapple cultivation, we were supported with seeds, techniques, and most importantly, our products were guaranteed at stable prices. Thanks to that, farmers no longer have to worry about output, and can confidently invest and produce according to the process. This is the key factor that helps us boldly expand the area.” According to Mr. Cuong, this linkage model has created a closed value chain, from production to processing and consumption. Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company is not only a purchasing unit but also guides and transfers technology, helping farmers master modern farming processes, improving product quality to meet export standards.
After many years of growing cassava and acacia, in early 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet's family (Ky Hoa commune) converted more than 3 hectares of hilly land in Tan Son village to growing pineapple. Up to now, 1 hectare of pineapple has been harvested with a fairly high yield, reaching over 35 tons/ha; the remaining 2 hectares are preparing for mass harvesting. Ms. Nguyet said: “I have never seen a crop that is as suitable for the dry hilly land of Ky Hoa as pineapple. Thanks to the joint contract and the close guidance of the company, we quickly grasped the technique. The income from pineapple is many times higher than that from acacia. I am continuing to work the land, aiming to expand the pineapple growing area to 8 hectares in the near future to further increase the family's income and stabilize life.” According to Ms. Nguyet, the conversion to pineapple cultivation not only brings high economic efficiency but also contributes to land improvement, anti-erosion and especially adapts well to harsh weather conditions. In the photo: Ky Hoa commune leaders inspect the pineapple cultivation model of Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet's household. Not only Mr. Cuong and Mrs. Nguyet's family, but also the whole Ky Hoa commune has now planted 71 hectares of pineapples in association. The pineapple areas are all growing well and are entering the mass harvest period. The average yield is 35-40 tons/ha. After deducting expenses, each hectare has a profit of 130 million VND or more, a dream income for farmers in the hilly areas. Planted on arid hills, many places were previously abandoned, but pineapple trees still grow well. Notably, two storms No. 5 and No. 10 caused nearly 70% of the commune's acacia area to collapse, but pineapple trees were not affected at all. During the hot season, the trees still maintained good growth. This confirms that pineapple trees are a very suitable crop, with the ability to withstand drought and storms well with the soil and climate conditions of Ky Hoa land.
People of Ky Hoa commune are excited to harvest pineapples. Green pineapple fields, heavy with fruit in Ky Hoa commune.
The commune government is very sympathetic and supportive of this model of pineapple cultivation. We see this as the right direction, helping people to transform their crop structure sustainably, solving the problem of stable output. The commune is actively promoting, mobilizing, and creating conditions for people to continue expanding the area. Ky Hoa's goal is to develop pineapple into a key crop, helping to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and get rich on their homeland.

Not only in Ky Hoa, the pineapple linkage model is also showing positive results in many other localities. In the 10-hectare pineapple field in Cam Xuyen commune, according to local people, the pineapples grow evenly, produce high-quality fruit, promising a bumper crop. Currently, the whole province has nearly 250 hectares of pineapples grown in concentrated communes such as Ky Hoa, Ky Van, Ky Lac, Cam Xuyen, Vu Quang, Thuong Duc, Mai Hoa, Huong Xuan... In general, the pineapple areas are growing and developing well, creating a cool green landscape for the hilly areas and promising to bring in a good income for the people. Some areas have been harvested since August 2025 and will enter the mass harvest season from December onwards, lasting until 2026. The initial success of the pineapple farming model in Ha Tinh not only affirms the correctness of the policy of converting crop structure but also opens up a new direction in effectively exploiting land, increasing income and improving people's lives.
