In the first days of the year of At Ty 2025, many people have come to the island in the middle of Dong Nai River to visit Phuoc Long Pagoda to pray for luck. From the mainland, passengers have to take a boat for about 10 minutes to reach the pagoda.
This is one of the famous sacred pagodas in Ho Chi Minh City, a place to pray for luck and fortune for the new year.
About 25km from the city center, Phuoc Long Pagoda is also known as Chau Doc 3 Pagoda. The pagoda was built in 1965, belonging to the Northern Buddhist sect. At that time, the pagoda was just a thatched roof house with earthen walls. The current items were mainly built and renovated in 2009 on an area of 1.5 hectares.
Every day, many Buddhists and tourists come to worship and visit the temple. Especially on full moon days, Buddha's birthday... especially Lunar New Year, the temple attracts a lot of people to visit and worship.
Accordingly, the boat ticket to the pagoda is 30,000 VND, for children it is 10,000 VND round trip.
The nearly 60-year-old temple not only attracts local people but is also a destination for many tourists from other provinces and cities.
According to Dan Tri reporters, on the morning of the 2nd and 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, many people went to the pagoda early to pray for luck and health for their relatives and family.
"Every year, I take my whole family to Phuoc Long Pagoda on the third day of Tet. This is a beautiful tradition and an opportunity for the whole family to pray for health and happiness in the new year," said Ms. Hoang Thuy Lan (28 years old, Bien Hoa, Dong Nai).
Right at the entrance to the temple is a reclining Buddha statue about 15m long.
Many people have prepared incense, fruit trays and traditional offerings to offer to the gods, praying for peace and prosperity for their families.
In the center of Phuoc Long Pagoda is the main hall, 80m long, 25m wide, and 2,000m2 in area, designed with 1,500 wooden blocks over three years. Many Buddha statues were also meticulously designed and sculpted.
Inside the main hall consists of three compartments with the main structure made of wood. The mahogany brown color of the wood, the pillars, and the gilded roof make the space even more ancient.
Outside, small boats carry people from the ferry across the river to the pagoda, creating a romantic and traditional scene. Some people also release goldfish on New Year's Day.
"It took me more than 100km to travel from Vung Tau to the temple to worship. I pray for a new year with health and luck for many families," said Nguyen Tran (41 years old).
Phuoc Long Pagoda is not only a place of worship but also carries within it the cultural and historical values of the nation. People coming to the pagoda on the first day of the new year has become a beautiful cultural feature, expressing gratitude and aspirations for a peaceful and happy new year.
