After the UK tightened censorship of adult content, VPN traffic spiked 1,400% in just 24 hours. Users must provide video , photo or documents to verify their age, instead of just clicking “I am 18”.
However, some people have used videos of characters in games like Death Stranding to “impersonate” themselves. The character only needs to move his mouth and the automatic verification system will still successfully recognize him.
Some netizens even tried popular memes like “Hide the Pain Harold” and passed the censorship. Proton VPN says searches from the UK and France have spiked as censorship policies come into effect. Experts say that strict verification requirements are necessary, but current AI technology is still very easy to bypass.
