The company said that starting May 15, it will expand access to the AI photo editing feature that has been available only on Pixel phones and the Google One cloud storage subscription service.
Google's image AI features now include: Magic Eraser - a tool to remove objects from photos, Photo Unblur to clarify out-of-focus photos, and Portrait Light - rebalancing the light in the frame.
These tools will be available on a variety of devices, including Pixel tablets, Chromebook Plus computers (requires ChromeOS 118 or later and at least 3GB of RAM), and smartphones including iPhones and Android phones. For mobile devices, Android 8.0 and iOS 15 or later are required.
Magic Editor will also be expanded to all Pixel devices. All Google Photos users on Android and iOS will get 10 photos edited with the tool saved each month. However, Pixel users and Google One subscribers who pay for 2TB of storage will get unlimited use of the AI feature.
Also in May, another tech giant, Microsoft, is expected to announce AI tools for use on PCs and the cloud at its annual developer conference.
Previously, CEO Satya Nadella affirmed in January that “AI will become the pinnacle component of every PC”. Last month, Mustafa Suleyman - a famous expert in the field of AI - joined the Windows manufacturer.
Microsoft introduced Intel-based Surface PCs with Copilot buttons in March, and this year, the company will launch Surface versions with Arm-based chips designed to prioritize AI tasks.
