Djokovic shockingly lost to a player outside the ATP top 200

Novak Djokovic had to regretfully stop at the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters 2025 after losing to Valentin Vacherot - the Monaco player who was appearing in a Masters 1000 final for the first time.

Right from the start of the match, Djokovic and Vacherot created a tug-of-war, both continuously creating break points. However, the turning point came in the middle of the first set when “Nole” suffered a hip injury and needed medical attention.

From that point on, Djokovic's movement was noticeably limited, allowing Vacherot to take the opportunity to break and win the first set 6-3.

In the second set, Djokovic tried to come back after being injected with painkillers. He persistently prolonged the ball and looked for opportunities to regain control of the game. However, Vacherot's tenacity and consistent performance made all the Serbian's efforts hopeless.

The 9th game witnessed the decisive blow when the 204th ATP ranked player got an important break, thereby winning 6-4 and closing the match after nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes.

With a 6-3, 6-4 victory, Valentin Vacherot made history by reaching his first Masters final, where he will face the winner of the semi-final between Daniil Medvedev and Arthur Rinderknech.
