In the Athens Open final, Djokovic came from behind to beat Italian Lorenzo Musetti 2-1 (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) to win his 101st ATP title. But throughout the match, the Serbian struggled with injury and played with a pain-relieving patch on his shoulder.
When the match ended, Djokovic was so excited that he tore his shirt to celebrate. However, shortly after, he officially announced his withdrawal from the final tournament of the year, the ATP Tour Finals, due to injury.
Djokovic posted on Instagram his latest decision: "I was really looking forward to playing in Turin and giving it my all but after today's final in Athens, I am very sad to announce my withdrawal due to a persistent injury. I am truly sorry to the fans who were hoping to see me play, your support means a lot. I wish all the players a great tournament and I look forward to getting back on the court soon."
Djokovic's withdrawal means Lorenzo Musetti will be taking his place at the ATP Tour Finals, which will take place from November 9 to 16 in Turin, Italy.
