In the first set, Djokovic missed three break points but still showed his mettle at the right time. The Serbian won 7-1 in the tie-break, stirring up the atmosphere on the court as he celebrated with the crowd.
In the second set, the former world number one continued to maintain his stable form and coolly finished the match after a 6-4 victory, thereby winning in his first meeting with Borges.

“It was a very tense match. I think Nuno played at a high level. We were fighting all the time, just a few key points decided the result. He deserves the applause from the audience," Djokovic shared after the match.
With this victory, Djokovic reached the milestone of 200 indoor victories. He is also aiming for the 101st ATP title of his career, after reaching the 100th title milestone in Geneva earlier this year. Jimmy Connors currently leads the history with 109 titles, followed by Roger Federer (103).
Djokovic had previously beaten Alejandro Tabilo in the opening match in Athens - his first win over the Chilean in three meetings. The 38-year-old is in good form ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals which start next Sunday.
Djokovic is in the same group as Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur at this year's ATP Finals. He will now face Yannick Hanfmann in his 199th career semi-final. Djokovic is 29-0 when winning the first set in 2025.
