A supporter of Greek football team AEK Athens was killed by a knife during a fight with Croatian Dinamo Zagreb fans on Monday night, according to Greek police. At least eight others were injured in violent clashes ahead of the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League between the two teams.
The fan who was stabbed was a young man (22 years old). The victim was immediately transferred to Athens hospital but died from multiple stab wounds.
According to Greek media, supporters (identified as Dinamo Zagreb) armed with sticks and iron bars entered a train station in the Greek capital. They then circled the stadium to cause trouble, attacking many people in their path.

The Ethnos newspaper pointed out that the brawl was led by 150 to 200 Croatian football fans who arrived in Athens after traveling by car to Greece. The media and police were surprised by the sudden attack and took a long time to react and disperse the conflict between the two groups of fans.
According to preliminary reports, 96 people were arrested in this brawl. Of these, 88 were arrested and 8 were injured and are receiving first aid.
The group of people arrested came from many countries, including: 82 Croats, 1 Austrian, 1 Bosnian, 1 Albanian, 1 German and 2 Greeks.
The match between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening (21:45 local time) at the AEK Stadium in Nea Filadelfia on the outskirts of Athens.
