Project 6 “Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development” and Project 9 “Investing in the development of ethnic minority groups with very few people and ethnic groups with many difficulties” help people enjoy social services, develop the economy , and restore and preserve many customs, festivals, and traditional cultures.
The road leading to Nam Sao 1 village (Pa Tan commune, Lai Chau province) - where many Mang people live - now has many more spacious stilt houses. From the beginning of the village, the flute and singing of the art troupe practicing to celebrate Independence Day (September 2) made the atmosphere more bustling. The art troupe currently has 15 members. After finishing their farming work, the women practice together, under the guidance of artisan Lo Thi Chuong. The troupe actively participates in performing during festivals and traditional cultural and sports exchange days of the locality.
In the past, life was hard, so we only cared about food and clothing. Now, the village has changed, the locality opens cultural classes, establishes art troupes, we have just learned that the Mang ethnic group has many beautiful and meaningful songs and dances. Every time we go to perform and exchange, we feel more proud of our ethnic traditions.

Ms. Lung Thi Lan - a member of the Nam Sao 1 Village Art Troupe said: “Before, life was hard, so we only cared about food and clothing. Now, the village has changed, the locality opens cultural classes, establishes an art troupe, we just learned that the Mang ethnic group has many beautiful and meaningful songs and dances. Every time we perform and exchange, we feel more proud of our ethnic traditions.”
Sharing about the cultural teaching classes, Mr. Ly A Lau - Head of Nam O village, a prestigious person in the Mang community said: "These classes attract many young people, which is a good sign. Many children also have ideas to start a business from traditional brocade and weaving products associated with tourism development."
Each class has about 30 students and is mainly taught by artisans from the Mang and Cong villages. The ethnic language class is often attended by staff from the Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism.
Artisan Lo Thi Chuong (Nam Sao 1 village, Pa Tan commune) is always concerned with preserving the culture of the Mang ethnic group. Worried about traditional values being forgotten, she spends a lot of time and effort collecting musical instruments, recording songs, dances, and rituals in the New Rice Festival. When assigned to teach classes on folk performing arts and traditional costume making, with her experience and knowledge, she wholeheartedly imparts skills, while also conveying her love and pride in cultural identity to young students.
In addition to traditional cultural and artistic classes, thanks to Project 9, the Mang people's new rice festival has been restored since 2023 and has been maintained regularly until now. This is a spiritual festival, praying for a good harvest and peace for the villagers.
From 2024 to June 2025, in Le Loi, Pa Tan, Nam Hang, and Muong Mo communes (Lai Chau province), many more art troupes were established and dozens of classes were organized by the locality, such as: Teaching traditional folk performing arts; teaching ethnic languages orally; teaching traditional costume making; teaching and producing traditional crafts for the Mang and Cong ethnic groups.
