Model with boneless nose shares story of facing body shaming
Once very self-conscious when being criticized for her boneless nose, the female Gen Z model moved people to spread a positive message to people with physical defects. Pham Thi My Duyen (born in 2003) - the female model known as "10X with boneless nose" is a source of inspiration for many people with different appearances to become more confident and optimistic.
According to the sharing, when she was born, My Duyen was less fortunate than her twin sister because she had a deformed nose. This feature caused the girl born in 2003 to face many obstacles in life. "When she was born, there was a lump of flesh on the bridge of Duyen's nose, and her nostrils were pressed down, making it impossible to breathe. From Tu Du Hospital, My Duyen was transferred to Children's Hospital 1 to stay for 28 days. The doctor had to use a small straw to insert and lift her nostrils so she could breathe. At that time, looking at My Duyen, I felt heartbroken and sorry for her," Ms. Thanh Lieu (My Duyen's mother) recounted.
She had a breakdown
Recalling her high school days, My Duyen said she was a victim of body shaming, being teased and given many malicious nicknames by her friends. The verbal "knives" from her friends, even teachers and adults, deeply hurt My Duyen, to the point that the 10x girl fell into a mental crisis and asked to quit school. "I didn't think that my high school classmates would have such body shaming thoughts, at that time they were all 16 years old. It was like the first shock in my life, at that time I was so sad and hurt that I had to ask my parents to transfer schools" - My Duyen said.
Having become more steadfast in the face of harsh insults, My Duyen gradually became stronger and more confident with her unique appearance. Specifically, the 2K3 girl dared to share her story on her personal page with the message: "Stop body shaming others no matter how perfect you are" and received a lot of attention and support from the community.
But now she is stronger
After that, My Duyen confidently accepted to participate in the project "Healing Photography" - about the journey of stepping out of the comfort zone of disabled young people, carried out by photographer My Dien. With this photo series, My Duyen became more and more known and the message "Stop disparaging appearance" quickly spread. She confidently decided to participate in the beauty contest.
Not only does she want to tell her story, she also wants to spread a positive message.
My Duyen said she might have another surgery to make her nose more beautiful. However, before the opportunity to have rhinoplasty surgery, My Duyen hesitated and said: "I will definitely have surgery, but the current time is not suitable, because I want to keep this appearance to convey a message not only domestically but also internationally, to let everyone know that people like me can participate in beauty contests."
