Teacher VTKQ (Dak Glong District, Dak Nong Province ) was assaulted by parents at her home in May for giving students average conduct grades. In October 2023, the Vice Principal of Ham Tan High School (Binh Thuan Province) was attacked at her home by parents and several strangers, requiring emergency medical treatment.

The attack on the teacher has outraged many people, especially teachers like us. The physical pain will pass, but the emotional shock for the teacher will take a long time to heal. The parents have admitted that they acted aggressively towards the man their child called "teacher" because they were too angry. The pain of the wounds will lessen, but some scars will stay with the teacher for life.

From another perspective, many incidents posted on social media about teachers may not be true, but due to the rapid spread of information on social media, the negative effects have spread everywhere. During that time, teachers and their relatives and colleagues have had to endure a lot of criticism and backlash from social media.

In many cases, teachers are unable to protect themselves from the uncivilized behavior of some parents and even students. Teachers are bound by regulations of the education sector. According to the regulations of secondary schools, one of the things teachers are not allowed to do is "insult the honor, dignity, and physical integrity of students." Furthermore, teachers will face administrative penalties for violations in the field of education according to Government Decree No. 79 of 2015. Many teachers wonder: Does this mean teachers are not allowed to reprimand students when they misbehave?

That's the situation for teachers, but what about parents and students? Have the penalties for those who insult the dignity, honor, or physical integrity of teachers been sufficiently strict?

Many teachers are being "bullied" on social media.

In the digital age, people can receive information from many different sources, especially the internet. With such sources of information, I think everyone should be vigilant. Everyone needs to know how to verify and assess information in order to make objective comments and observations.

It is also crucial to identify the source and relevant facts of information; one cannot judge a person's character based on superficial appearances or generalizations about online phenomena. This is the essence of proper conduct in cyberspace.

From another perspective, parents need to set a good example for their children. Can parents who behave disrespectfully or "bully" teachers online or in real life set a good example for their children in terms of respecting teachers?

The responsibility of a teacher is to educate their students to become good people. Educational methods sometimes require flexibility, and sometimes firmness within reasonable limits. Teachers also need protection; they cannot be left alone to face the pressure from the rude and indecent behavior of some parents and students online and in real life.
