Born in 1952 into a farming family in the Fourth War Zone with a rich revolutionary tradition, in 1972, Mr. Nguyen Van Dan joined the army and was assigned to Regiment 2, Military Region 8, fighting in the Southern battlefield. In 1974, in a fierce anti-sweep battle in Cai Be district, My Tho province (now Dong Thap province), Mr. Dan was seriously injured and was transferred to the rear for treatment and returned to the North to recuperate. In 1979, Mr. Dan was discharged with a disability rate of 81%, carrying on his body the wounds of war and the consequences of Agent Orange.
Returning to civilian life with countless difficulties, but with the resilient qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", veteran Nguyen Van Dan did not surrender to fate. Lacking capital and experience, he always struggled to find a way to stabilize his life, enrich himself and help his comrades in difficulty.
After many years of struggling with various jobs to make a living, in 2014, Mr. Dan and a number of war veterans in Dong Trieu town (old) established Dong Trieu 2/9 War Invalids Company Limited, operating in the fields of excavation, land leveling, transportation and production of purified water. The company has created jobs for many war invalids and war veterans' children with stable income.
However, due to old age, poor health and many difficulties in the field of land leveling, such as high investment costs and limited human resources, in 2022, Mr. Dan and the shareholders decided to stop the company's operations and convert to a new model, Ngoc Chau A General Company Limited, specializing in the production of bottled purified drinking water.
As Director, CCB Nguyen Van Dan always focuses on improving product quality, investing in modern equipment, improving production processes, and applying new technology. Thanks to that, on average, each month, the company provides over 3,000 water bottles and 5,000 bottles of purified water to agencies, units, businesses, and schools in the area, achieving revenue of nearly 2 billion VND/year, creating stable jobs for more than 10 workers.
Not only stopping at economic development, CCB Nguyen Van Dan and his family also actively participate in local volunteer activities. Every year, he contributes tens of millions of VND to programs to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas; support people in flood-hit areas, education encouragement funds, and the "Comradely Love" fund. He also regularly gives gifts to poor students, students with disabilities, and provides free drinking water to students in difficult circumstances.
With his positive contributions to the community, for many consecutive years, CCB Nguyen Van Dan has been awarded the title "Excellent CCB in production and business" by the CCB Association at all levels, along with many certificates of merit from the Central and local levels.
The example of veteran Nguyen Van Dan is a living testament to the spirit of “disabled but not useless”, a resilient, creative peacetime soldier with a strong sense of responsibility to the community. The life story of veteran Nguyen Van Dan continues to spread a strong inspiration about the will to rise up and the desire to contribute endlessly, contributing to enriching the good values in today's life.
