Former oldest editor-in-chief of Vietnamese journalism passes away

Professor and journalist Dao Nguyen Cat, the first editor-in-chief of Vietnam Economic Times - who held the record for the oldest editor-in-chief - 93 years old (2020) in the Vietnamese press, passed away on the morning of October 6, at the age of 97.

Professor Dao Nguyen Cat was born in 1927 in Vinh Bao district (Hai Phong). In the early 1950s, he was among the first class of cadres sent to study politics in China and in the early 1960s was sent to study theory in the Soviet Union.

Returning to Vietnam, Mr. Dao Nguyen Cat worked at the Central Propaganda Department, engaged in teaching, writing books, writing articles, and working as editor-in-chief of magazines, and as Head of the Department of Compiling Political Theory Textbooks...

In 1991, after receiving the retirement decision, Professor Dao Nguyen Cat was approved by the Central Propaganda Department to become Editor-in-Chief of Economic Information newspaper, later renamed Vietnam Economic Times under the Vietnam Economic Science Association.

Under the management and direction of journalist Dao Nguyen Cat, Vietnam Economic Times is one of the pioneering newspapers in the economic press in Vietnam. During the integration period of Vietnam's economy with the world, the newspaper is widely distributed in many languages ​​such as: Vietnamese, English, Japanese, Chinese, with different editions such as yearbook, electronic newspaper (VnEconomy)...

After 29 years as editor-in-chief, in 2020, journalist Dao Nguyen Cat left his position when Vietnam Economic Times stopped publishing to arrange and implement press planning, transferring to Vietnam Economic Magazine.

With outstanding achievements, Professor Dao Nguyen Cat was awarded the Resistance Medal and the Third Class Independence Medal by the Party and State...

Up to this point, Professor Dao Nguyen Cat holds the record for the oldest and longest-serving editor-in-chief in Vietnam.
