HBO has 4 TV blockbusters nominated for Emmy 2023

The 2023 TV awards season surprised observers when HBO had four popular TV series receive important nominations this year, according to Deadline .

The four films nominated for Best Drama Series include: House Of the Dragon (prequel to the hit series Game of Thrones ), Succession (likened to a modern version of Game of Thrones ), The White Lotus and The Last Of Us (adapted from the famous game franchise by Naughty Dog).

This is the first time in more than 30 years that a network has had four shows nominated for Outstanding Drama Series in a single year. In the 1992 season, NBC had four series that achieved this feat: LA Law , Law & Order , Quantum Leap and I'll Fly Away .

HBO's shows are competing in the same category at the 2023 Emmy Awards. Succession (pictured) is considered the show that makes other competitors wary.

In 1992, there were five nominees, but all four NBC shows missed out, with CBS's Northern Exposure winning. This year, there are eight in the category, with HBO taking half.

Succession , The While Lotus , and The Last Of Us are considered the three "warhorses" in this category. The remaining titles in the nomination are also formidable "warhorses", such as AMC's Better Call Saul .

The remaining nominees in the category include Andor (on Disney+), Yellowjackets (on Showtime) and The Crown (on Netflix). The 75th Emmy Awards will take place on September 18.
