Dong Thap University: 50 years of development, reaching new heights

In response to the urgent need for teacher training in the Dong Thap Muoi region and the whole country, on December 26, 1975, Dong Thap Pedagogical High School was established and opened its first crash course. After many changes, in 2003, Dong Thap Pedagogical University was established and in September 2008, it was renamed Dong Thap University, becoming a multidisciplinary, multi-field school.

As of May 2025, Dong Thap University has trained and supplemented more than 45,000 teachers, bachelors and scientific and technical staff, contributing to meeting human resources for socio -economic development of Dong Thap province and the whole country.

Currently, the school has 564 people, with 520 staff; including 18 associate professors, 209 doctors and 325 masters. At the same time, the school has many graduate students to aim for future development.

In addition to training 49 undergraduate majors and 1 college major, Dong Thap University also trains 18 master's majors and 3 doctoral majors. The school has cooperative relationships with more than 50 international units and universities such as: Russia, Netherlands, USA, China, Thailand, Japan, Korea,...

On February 27, 2025, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 452 approving the planning of the network of highereducation and pedagogical institutions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. In particular, Dong Thap University is one of 14 key higher education institutions training teachers nationwide, with a scale of 7,200 to 8,000 teacher training targets each year, continuing to affirm the strength, reputation and quality of pedagogical training of the school nationwide.

According to the Board of Directors of Dong Thap University, in the coming period, the school will determine the perspective of rapid and sustainable development. In particular, digital transformation will be used as a lever to promote the development of the school management system; at the same time, exploit and promote the advantages of a multidisciplinary university; promote the potential of the staff and learners to innovate and develop the school. The collective of teachers and learners of Dong Thap University is determined to build an "educational ecosystem" with its own characteristics with the philosophy of "Creation - Professionalism - Integration"; aiming at the vision of becoming a high-quality university in Vietnam with an application orientation by 2030; becoming a high-quality university in Southeast Asia with a research orientation by 2045, in the new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.

With its long tradition and achievements, Dong Thap University has received many noble awards from the Central Government, the Ministry of Education and Training and Dong Thap Province. Notably, the First Class Labor Medal in 2003, the Third Class Independence Medal in 2009; the Government's Emulation Flag in 2022 and the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit in 2023.
