The administration of US President Joe Biden has once again bypassed Congress to greenlight emergency arms sales to Israel, which is intensifying and expanding its attacks on the Gaza Strip despite growing international outrage.
According to CNN, informing Congress, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he had issued the second emergency decision in less than a month, related to the sale of $ 147.5 million in weapons support equipment to Israel. This emergency decision has been used by at least four previous US administrations, meaning that the requirement for a lengthy congressional review of foreign military sales will be bypassed.
More than 21,000 Palestinians have now been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7. Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said Israeli authorities continued to impose “severe restrictions” on humanitarian access.
