Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia, from September 4 to 7 to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

In New Delhi, President Biden and G20 leaders are expected to discuss a range of joint efforts to address global issues, including the clean energy transition, mitigating the economic and social impacts of the conflict in Ukraine, and strengthening the capacity of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to address hunger and other global challenges, the White House said in a statement.

On this occasion, President Biden is expected to appreciate India's leadership role in the G20, and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as a forum of primary importance for economic cooperation, including the US's chairmanship of the G20 in 2026.

In Jakarta, Vice President Harris will attend the ASEAN-US Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS), as well as meet with leaders from the Indo- Pacific region. The Vice President and ASEAN leaders are expected to review the unprecedented growth in bilateral relations, while Harris reaffirms the United States’ enduring commitment to Southeast Asia and ASEAN’s centrality.

Through the Summits and sideline meetings, the US Vice President will promote initiatives to enhance shared security and prosperity, including stepping up efforts to respond to climate change, maritime security, infrastructure, economic growth, ensuring and strengthening international rules and norms in the region, as well as addressing regional and global challenges.

Vice President Harris’ visit will continue and build on the momentum of the relationship following President Biden’s in-person participation in the ASEAN-US Summit and East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in November 2022, his virtual participation in these summits in November 2021, as well as Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris’ meetings with ASEAN leaders at the ASEAN-US Special Summit in May 2022 in Washington, DC.

This is also Vice President Harris's third visit to Southeast Asia in the past two years, following his visit to Vietnam and Singapore in August 2021 and his visit to the Philippines and Thailand in November 2022.
