In recent days, social networks and parents of students in Da Nang City have been abuzz with the news that a first-grade student at Tran Quang Dieu Primary School fell from a desk to the ground during recess, resulting in broken teeth and mouth injuries. The poster said that the school did not inform the parents in time, and also reported that the student had to sleep on wooden planks, which posed a potential risk of falling.

In response to public concern, on September 24, Ms. Bach Thi Dao, Principal of Tran Quang Dieu Primary School, frankly accepted responsibility and said that the school had taken corrective actions after the incident. However, the Principal said that the content spread online did not fully reflect the situation, causing misunderstandings among the public.
This incident happened in class 1/4, about 10 days ago, during nap time, a student rolled off his bed and fell to the ground... Immediately, the student's supervisor took the student to the medical room for examination. "The medical staff observed that there were no signs of swelling or edema on the outside. The student also said that the broken tooth had fallen out before, so it was concluded that it was not serious, only instructions on oral hygiene and normal activities," Principal Dao explained.

Regarding the mistake, according to Principal Dao, it was that the medical staff did not report it to the homeroom teacher, causing the information to not be passed to the parents in time. When the family took their child to the hospital, the doctor determined that there was a wound on the lip and proceeded to stitch it. Afterwards, the Board of Directors and teachers directly visited, apologized, and encouraged the student and his family.
Regarding the opinion that "students have to sleep on wooden boards", Principal Dao admitted: "The school's physical facilities are still limited. The classrooms are currently used for both teaching and boarding purposes.
“Removing all desks and chairs to create separate rooms, as some parents have suggested, is difficult to implement in public schools. This model is only suitable for private and international schools. However, the school has learned from experience and rearranged sleeping positions more appropriately, while requiring teachers and administrators to closely monitor students to avoid them falling over,” Ms. Dao shared.
At the meeting with parents, both sides agreed to make adjustments, including a plan to let students sleep on mats on the podium. The parent representative then directly apologized for sharing incomplete information on social media, causing misunderstandings and wasting the school's time.
Responding to public comments and feedback from parents and students on social networking sites, Principal Dao said that the article originated from an anonymous account, not posted by the student's parents but shared by a friend.
“The school has instructed staff and teachers not to participate in debates or comments on social networks related to the incident to avoid causing further misunderstandings. It is the legitimate right of parents to have opinions. The school’s responsibility is to receive, discuss and resolve. We are open to listening to do better, but we are also determined not to accept false information,” Principal Dao affirmed.
