SEA Games Champion Thanh Tu Wins Big at HBSF 2023 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament

Participating in the final match of the tournament were Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu and the famous talent in the Vietnamese Carom village - Le Thanh Tien after both had defeated many domestic and foreign experts.

In the first turn, Thanh Tu launched a series of 11 points to lead 11-3. The 28-year-old player continued to have a 6-point line to create a gap of 25-13 after the first round. Entering the second round, Le Thanh Tien launched a 10-point shot to equalize the gap at 27-27. From then on, the match returned to an attractive tug-of-war. In the 27th turn, Thanh Tu launched a series of 6 points to end the match with a score of 50-43.

With this result, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu became the champion to receive 100 million VND in prize money, cup, medal and 1 JFlowers competition cue worth more than 50 million VND. Along with that, the player born in 1994 also won the "Best Game" secondary prize worth 5 million VND. Notably, Thanh Tu also surpassed Tran Quyet Chien to become the highest ranked player on the HBSF rankings in 2023 with the prize of 1 Billiards Carom brand Million Tips worth more than 70 million VND.

Thanh Tu is known as the only Vietnamese player to win consecutive 1-Cushion Carom and 3-Cushion Carom titles at 2 SEA Games. In 2022, Thanh Tu won the 1-Cushion Carom title at home, then at the 32nd SEA Games in May this year in Cambodia, he won the 3-Cushion Carom title. The HBSF championship is the perfect ending to a successful year of competition for the player from Can Tho .

As the runner-up, Le Thanh Tien received 40 million VND, a medal and a cue from JFlowers. In addition, Thanh Tien also received the “Excellent Series” award worth 5 million VND for his 16-point cue in the semi-final match against Le Quoc Ho. The two third-place players, Le Quoc Ho and Tran Duc Minh, received 20 million VND, while the remaining 4 players in the top 8, Ly The Vinh, Nguyen Duc Anh Chien, Nguyen Thanh Tung and Ngo Le Duy, received 8 million VND.

The 2023 HBSF 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Championship organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation is considered the "Vietnam 3-Cushion Carom World Cup" as it gathers quality domestic and international players, organized on a scale and professionalism no less than the Billiards World Cup tournaments.
