On the morning of November 21, the Military University of Culture and Arts held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the Military Symphony Orchestra (MSO). This is considered an important event for the Vietnamese academic arts, as for the first time the military has a large-scale symphony orchestra, oriented to international standards.

At the event, musician Do Bao - former Head of the Composition Department of the Faculty of Music - officially took on the position of Director of the Army Symphony Orchestra. Born in 1978, he has won many music awards, most notably the Dedication Award. He is a founding member of the Sao Mai band and made his mark as a harmonizer and arranger for the album Nhat Thuc by singer Tran Thu Ha.
Do Bao is also famous for songs such as: The First Love Letter, The Second Love Letter, Rainbow in the Rainy Night, Story of the Sun - Story of Us, Scarlet Sails... In addition, he is also associated with many symphonic works and major art projects of the army.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, musician Do Bao expressed his joy and respect for the new milestone.
“We are entering a new stage of development for the country, but the role and position of music still retain their value. Symphony music will continue to convey emotions and spread quintessential cultural values to the public, from domestic to international works.
The orchestra operates professionally and intensively, gradually bringing military music closer to the public at home and abroad. Through a modern, academic environment, we hope to promote a good image of the army, the country and the people of Vietnam, while improving the cultural and spiritual life of officers, soldiers and people, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation," he said.
In addition to musician Do Bao holding the position of Director, there are 2 Deputy Directors including Lieutenant Colonel, musician Nguyen An Hieu and Major, Meritorious Artist Vu Thang Loi, actor of the Military Region 2 Art Troupe.

Major, Meritorious Artist Vu Thang Loi also expressed his emotion and pride when the Army Symphony Orchestra was officially established and put into operation. He said this was an important milestone not only for the military arts field in general but also for himself.
“I feel honored to be in the ranks of the Army Symphony Orchestra. This is a step of maturity and the beginning of a more professional military art,” said the male artist.
Meritorious Artist Vu Thang Loi also revealed that the orchestra will bring symphonic music closer to soldiers and people through important service programs and ceremonies.
At the event, Lieutenant Colonel and musician Nguyen An Hieu said that before the launch, the force had organized many large-scale training programs such as: Unification Song, Joyful Country, 80 Years - The Everlasting Epic.
“These programs are highly appreciated by experts for their scale and artistic quality. These are experimental programs that prove our ability to organize large symphony programs. The orchestra demonstrates a harmonious combination of domestic and international works, between instrumental music and art songs, and at the same time elevates Vietnamese revolutionary music works,” musician Nguyen An Hieu added.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Army Symphony Orchestra will operate on a professional model, both performing and training and fostering musicians for the army and the country. With a scale of three extended ranges, the orchestra includes strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass and electronic instruments, equivalent to symphony orchestras in Austria, France, Germany, with 101 musicians and a framework of leaders, conductors, assistants and staff.
The birth of the Military Symphony Orchestra marked an important turning point in military art and opened up new prospects for Vietnamese classical music.
