This is Mr. Christie's second time running for office after his defeat in 2016. This year, Mr. Christie has joined the group of Republican candidates advocating to replace former President Donald Trump.
Christie’s advisers said the campaign would ramp up its media presence to compete directly with Trump. Christie himself said he had strong instincts to take on former President Trump.
Mr. Christie is scheduled to kick off his campaign with a rally on the evening of June 6 in New Hampshire.
Billionaire Steven Cohen, who donated millions of dollars to Mr. Christie's 2016 election, has decided to continue to financially support the former Governor in the upcoming race.
In 2016, after failing to win the Republican nomination, Mr. Christie turned to support Mr. Trump and later became one of the leaders of the former President's transition team.
In 2017, Mr. Trump appointed Mr. Christie to head an advisory commission on opioid abuse.
