Recently in Kobe city (Japan), the Conference of Ministers in charge of tourism of Japan, China, and Korea set ambitious goals for tourism development cooperation between the three countries in the coming time.
The Japan-China-Korea Tourism Ministers' Meeting resumed after a five-year hiatus. Here, the ministers discussed the tourism situation in their countries and discussed measures to promote cooperation in tourism development in the coming time. The parties also agreed to carry out a number of specific activities such as: increasing the number of direct flights to tighten connections, coordinating to take advantage of the natural and cultural advantages of localities to create more added value for tourism products, sharing tourism information, etc.

The Korean side expressed optimism about the results of tourism cooperation between Korea and Japan, with the number of tourists visiting the two countries increasing to a record level in recent times. Before concluding the talks, the ministers adopted a joint statement, in which they set a goal of increasing the number of tourists to the three countries from 30 million per year in the period before the Covid-19 pandemic to 40 million by 2030. The Japanese side highly appreciated the results achieved at this conference.
Mr. Saito Tetsuo - Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan said: “Tourism is one of the important pillars in Japan's development strategy, and at the same time is a breakthrough for the economic development of localities. Through tourism, Japanese people are exposed to the cultural quintessence of other countries and territories, thereby preserving and developing their indigenous culture. Furthermore, in the context of the current complex world situation, tourism brings an increasingly important value. That is, it contributes to enhancing international exchange, contributing to deepening mutual understanding between nations. Accordingly, this agreement has a special importance”.
Minister Saito also emphasized that Japan will make maximum efforts and closely cooperate with China and South Korea to realize the above goal.
