Many potential traffic safety hazards on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway remain unaddressed.

These shortcomings were inspected in August 2025 by the Traffic Police Department in coordination with the Vietnam Road Administration, and a request was made to the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) to rectify them.

On December 17th, the Traffic Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) announced that on December 15th, a task force surveyed traffic organization and reviewed unreasonable points on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, and requested VEC (the managing and operating unit) to address 9 recommendations related to traffic organization, infrastructure, signage, and emergency lanes.

However, to date, VEC has only completed the process of proposing solutions to 3 recommendations to higher authorities, but these have not yet been implemented in practice on the ground; the remaining 6 recommendations are still being planned and studied for further action.

The Traffic Police Department has pointed out several inconsistencies in some sections of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.

According to a representative from the Traffic Police Department, during the field survey, the task force discovered shortcomings on this road that affect traffic safety and order.

Accordingly, although three rest stops were planned along the route, only one is currently under construction (at Km96).

Meanwhile, the emergency lane was designed to be 2.5m wide, but the actual survey showed it to be only 2.25m. Compared to existing regulations, this lane width is only applicable to highways with an operating speed of 80km/h (while this highway has an operating speed of 120km/h).

Furthermore, a landslide occurred at Km34+800 on this expressway, but it has not been repaired in time, with only temporary warning signs like cones, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents. According to the Traffic Police Department, despite recommendations from the police, VEC has not yet implemented the separation of lanes for passenger cars, buses, and trucks. The route also has many potholes and poor road surfaces in many areas, compromising traffic safety.

Previously, the Traffic Police Department had made six recommendations since August 2025, but VEC has not yet addressed them. Among these recommendations was the need to review and develop appropriate solutions to address the issue of glare from headlights of oncoming vehicles at certain points along the expressway (at Km25, Km26, Km46+100, etc.).

The Traffic Police Department requested VEC to strengthen regular maintenance work to ensure traffic safety; and complete the entire service road system…
