Many universities 'turn around' and remove strange combinations for admission to Medicine and Pedagogy

Hoa Binh University has just adjusted the admission combination for the majors of Medicine and Traditional Medicine with 5 combinations, of which 4 combinations have both Math and Biology including: B00 (Math, Physics, Biology); A02 (Math, Biology, Physics); B03 (Math, Biology, Literature); B08 (Math, Biology, English). The remaining combination is A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry).

Previously, the school used 4 combinations to recruit for these two majors, but only one combination had Biology, which was B00 (Math, Physics, Biology). The remaining 3 combinations did not have Biology, including A01 (Math, Physics, English), C04 (Literature, Mathematics, Geography), D01 (Literature, Mathematics, English).

Similarly, Dong Thap University also adjusted the admission combination for many Pedagogy majors. All Pedagogy majors with basic subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have main subjects in the admission combination.

Previously, the school recruited Physics Education majors with combinations such as (Math, Literature, English), (Math, Literature, Chemistry). Chemistry Education recruited majors with combinations of (Math, Literature, Physics), (Math, Literature, English), Biology Education recruited majors with combinations of (Math, Literature, Chemistry)...

According to the 2025 university admission regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training wants to limit strange combinations by requiring one of two subjects, Literature or Mathematics. However, universities get around the requirement by meeting the requirements but not including the subjects of the major they are enrolling in in the combination.

This year, Hanoi Capital University enrolls students in the Physics Education major with four groups, but only one group has Physics as a subject, which is C01 (Literature, Mathematics, Physics). The remaining three groups do not have this subject, including: D01 (Math, Literature, English), C02 (Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry) and C04 (Literature, Mathematics, Geography).

English Pedagogy also uses four combinations like History Pedagogy and there is only one combination with English subject, D01 (Math, Literature, English).

Not only Hanoi Capital University, this situation occurs in many universities across the country. The Geography Pedagogy Department of Hai Duong University recruits the D01 combination (Math, Literature, English); or the Physics Pedagogy Department of Khanh Hoa University recruits the D07 combination (Math, Chemistry, English) and B00 combination (Math, Chemistry, Biology), in addition to two combinations with Physics.

Schools that recruit using strange combinations must explain
The Ministry of Education and Training requires universities to review their admission combinations and methods to ensure the requirements of basic knowledge and core competencies that candidates need to have to study.
The Ministry of Education and Training emphasized that 2025 is the first year to organize high school graduation exams and university admissions according to the new general education program. According to this program, at the high school level, students choose subject combinations according to knowledge groups, and may not study some subjects. Therefore, to ensure university admissions are in accordance with regulations, training quality and fairness among candidates, the Ministry requires training institutions to strictly implement current regulations and guidance documents.
Particularly for teacher training majors, the subject combination for admission or the entrance threshold must have specific requirements for the corresponding subject knowledge. Universities are responsible for explaining the scientific and practical basis in determining the admission method, admission method and admission combination.
