In Dong Thanh commune, many areas of acacia forests were broken and scattered along the hillsides, and have not been repaired yet. Mr. Phan Trong Luong, an acacia grower in hamlet 4, Dong Thanh commune, shared: "My family has 6 hectares of acacia trees that are nearly 3 years old, and are in the care stage, and will be ready for harvest in about a year. However, after the recent storm, about 0.8 hectares were broken. Currently, I can only use them for firewood or sell young acacia trees at low prices."

Not far away, Mr. Nguyen Sy Chuong is also cleaning up the damaged acacia area. He said: "My family has more than 4 hectares of acacia, of which about 1 hectare of 2-year-old acacia was blown down by the wind. We are cleaning up to prepare for replanting."
According to people in Dong Thanh commune, since the end of March until now, this area has often had thunderstorms in the afternoon, causing many areas of acacia trees to collapse.

Mr. Ngo Van Tuan - Chairman of Dong Thanh Commune People's Committee said: "The two storms on March 28 and May 1 caused over 35 hectares of acacia trees, mostly 3 to 5 years old, to fall. The economic damage is not small. With the broken 2-3 year old acacia trees, people were forced to cut them down and replant. Trees 4 years old or older can be harvested for sale."

In Kim Thanh commune, the situation of acacia trees falling also occurred. Mr. Phan Tat Mau - Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune said: "In the past few days, storms have broken more than 20 hectares of 2-3 year old acacia trees in Trai Mat and Ngoc Lien hamlets. The commune government has mobilized forces and households to clean up and ensure safety for the roads."

Mr. Le Van Hong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that the whole district has more than 70 hectares of acacia damaged by storms and whirlwinds. The district has directed communes to organize local forces to coordinate with local people to urgently clean up and replant damaged areas, quickly stabilizing production. The district also recommends that people proactively harvest acacia areas that are old enough to limit damage from storms that may continue in the future.
