With the renowned deliciousness of Ba Thac salt and the unique salty taste with a sweet aftertaste unlike anywhere else, the traditional salt-producing villages in Bac Lieu basically meet the criteria for becoming attractive destinations in the agricultural and rural tourism product development program. This is also a sustainable development direction that is being actively implemented in localities with traditional salt production.
Driven by the aim of preserving and spreading the essence of the salt-making heritage, the Global Environment Fund's Small Projects Programme (part of the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP) has funded the implementation of a Smart Salt Tourism Village in Vinh Tien hamlet (Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district). This is one of the hamlets that has maintained its salt production area using traditional farming methods, resulting in salt with high nutritional value.
Project members surveyed 200 households in Vinh Tien hamlet about their aspirations for building a smart community-based salt tourism ecosystem. Based on the survey data, the project developed a service supply chain including: building homestays, food processing, traditional cake making, traditional music performances, establishing a clean vegetable garden, providing tour guides, and setting up a traditional house showcasing salt-making tools… to serve the needs of tourists seeking a salt village experience.
To develop salt village tourism, besides close cooperation between the government, scientists, and especially farmers (salt producers), it is essential to invest in a convenient transportation infrastructure to connect with ecological and cultural tourism destinations along the same route. Adequate investment in transportation will also pave the way for domestic travel companies to strengthen tour links to the salt village.
* Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Head of the Tourism Management Department (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City): Building a salt innovation center in Bac Lieu.

It is necessary to build an integrated value chain model between salt producers, processing centers, and tourist destinations in Bac Lieu. This will create an efficient production process while also opening up many development opportunities for the local tourism industry. This model helps create a continuous and synchronized process, from production to consumption, ensuring that the product is always supplied promptly and of high quality.
A salt innovation center is needed in Bac Lieu, designed with a diverse structure, including key components such as: a handicraft workshop, a salt cosmetics laboratory, and a salt beer production plant.
The handicraft workshop produces handicrafts from salt, such as salt lamps, decorations, and souvenirs. The salt cosmetics laboratory focuses on researching and developing health and beauty products from salt (bath salts, salt-based masks, and herbal salt extracts...). The salt beer factory will be a unique highlight of the center, producing beer from salt. Salt beer not only offers a novel flavor but could also become a signature product of Bac Lieu.
The Salt Innovation Center in Bac Lieu will be a unique integrated model, combining the production, processing, and consumption of salt products. With its diverse structure and efficient operating procedures, this center will not only create economic value but also contribute to the sustainable development of the local salt production industry and tourism.
* Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thao - Deputy Director of Bac Lieu Salt Joint Stock Company: Salt DL opens up a sustainable direction for the Bac Lieu salt industry.

To contribute to the sustainable development of the salt industry, in addition to policies encouraging the industrialization and modernization of salt production, the company always aims to develop an increasingly diverse range of salt-related products to increase production value, enhance the value of Bac Lieu salt, and meet the increasingly diverse needs of customers.
Currently, the company has developed many new product lines such as spiced salts, spa salts, and especially the newly launched DL salt line with over 130 different sizes available at the company's stores. This aims to introduce and promote the salt value chain, from the salt production model in the fields to the company's commercial salt products. In addition, the company is also planning to build a tourist area at its 35-hectare salt field, creating a "One Day as a Salt Farmer" program for visitors to directly participate in and experience the salt-making process.
With the joint efforts and solidarity of all parties, we believe that in the future, the salt project will open up a sustainable path for the salt industry in Bac Lieu.
