Competitions, book festivals, book digitization projects or mobilizing social resources to join hands in developing a reading culture have contributed to making reading a beautiful practice that spreads widely in the community, sowing the seeds of love for books, nurturing the habit of seeking knowledge and the desire to learn in all ages.
Exciting Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2025
In 2025, the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest continues to be a highlight, attracting thousands of primary, secondary and high school students across the province to participate. Not only is it a playground for students to express their passion for reading, the contest also encourages creativity through making video clips, writing comments, retelling favorite stories or proposing initiatives to spread reading habits. Many entries have left a deep impression, demonstrating the maturity of young people's thinking and emotions in the face of life's issues.
One of the outstanding faces of this year’s contest is Mai Nha Phuong, class 4/8, Nguyen Du Primary School (Tran Bien Ward). She impressed not only with her entry that won the highest prize - the title of Outstanding Reading Culture Ambassador, but also because this is the second year she has maintained this “title”.
This year, Nha Phuong entered the contest with the work Blue Lotus by writer Son Tung - a book depicting the childhood, training journey and noble ideals of Uncle Ho. With the form of making a video clip, she skillfully combined her ability to host the program with her deep feelings from the work, creating an impressive contest, continuing to become a face that strongly inspires reading...
Nha Phuong shared: “With the work Blue Lotus, I learned a lesson about Uncle Ho's will, perseverance and immense love. That is a source of inspiration for me and my peers to live a decent life, study and practice well. I am very happy to win the highest prize in this year's contest. This is a recognition of my passion for reading, and at the same time a motivation for me to continue spreading the reading culture to more people."
Although he did not win the highest prize, for Le Khanh Phong, class 6/3, Le Quy Don Secondary School (Tri An commune), this year's competition was a memorable one.
Khanh Phong confided: “Participating in the contest helped me understand more about the value of reading for learning and self-improvement. Although I only won the consolation prize, I feel very happy because I was able to share the book I love and my feelings. The contest also helped me learn more from other friends. I hope there will be more playgrounds like this so that students can freely create and share, spreading the love for books.”
Asia Bilingual Primary, Secondary and High School (Tran Bien Ward) is the unit with many contestants participating and has 14 high-prize winning entries in the contest, demonstrating the investment, research, reading spirit and creativity of the students.
According to Ms. Mai Thu Phuong, Literature teacher at Asia Bilingual Primary and Secondary School, to achieve this result, the school has popularized the contest to all grades since April 2025. Teachers have guided and encouraged students to participate based on their talents (presentation, technology knowledge, graphic design, etc.), so that students can choose their own books and share their feelings. Many students have shown passion and creativity beyond expectations.
Highly appreciating the quantity and quality of this year's entries, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Library Tran Anh Tho said: The entries closely followed the questions and understood the meaning of the contest, the students had the right awareness and were deeply interested in the current reading culture issue. Many entries were carefully invested, beautifully presented, and creative in both content and form. The characters and works selected all have the power to inspire, raise awareness, guide students to a positive lifestyle, responsibility to society, arouse the will and aspiration to contribute, build and develop a prosperous and happy country.
The 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest has come to an end. The Organizing Committee has awarded 39 prizes to the contestants with the highest results. The Organizing Committee has sent 6 excellent entries to the final round organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
“Many students have implemented impressive competition models, with bilingual exams (Vietnamese and English) accompanied by video clips. The plans and initiatives that students have developed are age-appropriate, aiming to develop a reading culture for students, especially those in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, and the disabled. Some of the entries have demonstrated specific, practical actions, calling for donations of books and funds to build bookcases for donation…” - Ms. Tran Anh Tho emphasized.
Don't let the surface "buzz"
The success of the 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is a catalyst for the reading movement in Dong Nai to enter a more vibrant phase.

According to Deputy Director of Dong Nai Library Tran Anh Tho, the unit (facility 1 in Tan Trieu ward; facility 2 in Binh Phuoc ward) is currently coordinating with the locality to organize a book exhibition to serve the first Party Congress of communes and wards, term 2025-2030. In addition, the library continues to circulate books to schools and communes in remote areas, helping students and people access books more conveniently.
Ms. Tho shared: “Towards the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2, Dong Nai Library is opening its doors for free to serve the people's need to learn about culture and history. In particular, the library will organize an exhibition and arrange art books at facility 1; at the same time, apply technology, digitize books, and introduce works related to the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2 on the unit's website, YouTube, and Facebook."
The reading movement in Dong Nai is being fueled by many creative activities that connect the community. In schools, dozens of models such as green libraries, schoolyard bookshelves, classroom bookshelves, taking advantage of schoolyard space or classroom hallways to place small bookshelves, students can borrow and exchange books for free; or the program of one page a day, reading periods during the week have been implemented.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, teacher in charge of the Youth Union at Nguyen Du Primary School, said: “We always encourage students to approach books naturally and deeply, not just superficially. In addition to reading hours in the library, the school also organizes storytelling sessions based on books, drawing competitions to illustrate the content they have read, or dramatizing literary works. Students are trained in presentation skills, while nurturing their imagination and confidence.”
Many creative reading models in the community in Dong Nai such as: Tran Bien Ward Book Villa; Ta Lai Commune Community Library; Cham Reading Room in Long Thanh Commune; Green Seed Bookcase in Bao Vinh Ward or Wisdom House in the communes: Tri An, Tan Trieu, Tan An, Phu Ly... have attracted many people, especially students from ethnic minority areas. These models have been and are being maintained effectively, not only providing a variety of books, but also combining games, fine arts, sports (chess), cultural exploration, free English learning and exchanges with many foreign experts, creating a useful learning and playing environment in the community.
To develop and spread the reading culture in the province, Dong Nai Library is developing a plan to coordinate with local authorities to organize mobile buses to bring books to the commune-level general service centers. This activity contributes to bringing rich sources of knowledge closer to the people, creating favorable conditions for everyone to access and cultivate the habit of reading.
Ms. Tran Anh Tho added: Since the two-level local government model came into operation, district-level libraries have been assigned to localities and currently these libraries are under the general service centers of communes and wards. However, some localities have almost no staff to carry out library work. Therefore, in the coming time, she expects that all levels and sectors will have specific instructions and arrange human resources for localities to organize activities well, develop reading culture in the community and serve people in lifelong learning. This is an important foundation contributing to building a civilized, creative and humane society.
