Nutrition Institute monitors vitamin A supplementation campaign in Dong Nai

(DN) - On December 1, a working delegation from the Institute of Nutrition (Ministry of Health) led by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Duong, Director of the Institute, supervised the organization of the second Vitamin A supplementation campaign in Dong Nai province.

Master Tran Ngoc Quang, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Dong Nai province, said: This time, the whole province has about 199,000 children from 6 months to under 36 months old who are eligible to take vitamin A. In addition, subjects at high risk of vitamin A deficiency such as: children and people with measles, children from 0 to under 72 months old with severe acute malnutrition, children from 6 to under 60 months old with prolonged diarrhea or acute respiratory infections are also given vitamin A during this time.

Of which, children from 6 to under 12 months old are given a dose of 100 thousand international units; children from 12 to under 60 months old are given a dose of 200 thousand international units. Dong Nai health sector strives to ensure that over 98% of children of the age group are given vitamin A. In addition, we will continue to organize mass vaccination for children to ensure that 100% of the total number of children are given vitamin A.

At Xuan Truong Health Station (Xuan Loc Commune), the working group of the Institute of Nutrition noticed that from 7am, many parents with children aged 6 to 36 months came to the health station to provide personal information of their children, measure their height and weight, have a general examination and take vitamin A.

When bringing their children to vitamin A stations, parents are instructed and advised on supplementing the necessary micronutrients for their children's development.

Concluding the monitoring session, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Duong, Director of the Institute of Nutrition, assessed that Dong Nai had made careful preparations for the second Vitamin A Campaign. Particularly at Xuan Truong Medical Station, a good drinking point was arranged, with a clear system of books and a list of subjects. The medical staff and collaborators performed the technique skillfully, and no vitamins were left in the shell after giving them to children. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Duong suggested that in the coming time, the Dong Nai Department of Health and the Dong Nai Provincial Center for Disease Control continue to pay attention to nutrition activities, especially for pregnant women and children. It is necessary to take care of nutrition for people according to the life cycle, monitor children's nutritional characteristics, especially sick children.
