Thanks to technology transfer, My Tu healthcare has changed.

SKĐS - Amidst the crisscrossing canals of the West, My Tu Regional Medical Center, Can Tho City is undergoing a "transformation" thanks to the transfer of technology from higher levels. From diagnosis to treatment, medical advances have helped people feel secure in receiving treatment close to home, reducing the need for treatment far away.

Learning from higher levels to "keep patients close to home"

My Tu Regional Medical Center, Can Tho City is located in a low-lying area, during the rainy season, water from upstream flows down, cutting off traffic in many places. The Medical Center has to take care of regular medical examination and treatment, and also operate during the period when the hospital is being renovated and repaired. However, difficulties have never discouraged the medical staff here.

People come to My Tu Regional Medical Center for medical examination and treatment.

In the first 9 months of 2025, the center received more than 75,000 outpatient visits and nearly 10,300 inpatient visits, numbers that show that people are starting to trust the grassroots health system again. In particular, the hospitalization rate accounts for 13.7% of total visits, showing that patients no longer seek to transfer to another level from the beginning like in previous years.

To retain patients, the core factor is not the physical facilities, but professional capacity. And My Tu Regional Medical Center has persistently cultivated that every day.

In the Mekong Delta, the story of "going to the city for medical treatment" seems to have become a habit. My Tu wants to change that. And they start by investing heavily in professional training.

3 doctors are studying for a specialist degree, 6 doctors are studying for a general university degree. Also during this time, dozens of doctors and technicians were sent to study short-term courses: ultrasound, electrocardiography, advanced emergency, X-ray... The "hands-on" training courses at Cho Ray Hospital, Can Tho Central General Hospital, Thong Nhat Hospital... help the medical team not only know how to "do it", but also "do it right, do it safely".

Thanks to this, many techniques that previously required hospital transfer can now be performed at My Tu Regional Medical Center. The total number of paraclinical services increased by more than 25,000 compared to the same period, reflecting a significant expansion of diagnostic capacity. "When people see that we have mastered the techniques, they feel secure in staying for treatment. Each patient who does not have to be transferred is a success for the whole team," said Dr. Duong Minh Tri, Director of My Tu Regional Medical Center.

Along with professional development, My Tu Regional Medical Center pays special attention to improving service quality standards. The drug and treatment committee maintains regular medical records activities every month; disease model topics are periodically organized for doctors to update their protocols.

My Tu Regional Medical Center is undergoing a transformation thanks to a series of techniques transferred from higher levels. From diagnosis to treatment, medical advances have helped people feel secure in receiving treatment right at home, without the burden of traveling far.

In the wards, nurses are retrained in care skills, each person is responsible for monitoring each specific patient, ensuring compliance with the 10 nursing techniques according to industry standards. Thanks to that, in the past 9 months, there has been no feedback from patients about service attitude or professional errors.

In 2024, the unit had 48 initiatives and 2 research topics recognized, a number far exceeding the district level. Each research is linked to practice: safe injection in the clinical department, evaluation of sterilization practices... Those initiatives, though small, are the foundation to help My Tu get closer to the standards of a modern medical center.

While in 2023, the number of outpatient visits decreased sharply due to the impact of COVID-19, by 2025, the numbers had gradually increased again. Some communes reduced the number of visits due to population changes, but overall, the need for treatment at My Tu is recovering. In particular, the Department of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases recorded a sharp increase with more than 6,100 inpatients.

Paraclinical systems such as osteoporosis machines, ultrasound, and X-rays are used more effectively, tests are increasingly diverse, saving time for patients. Thanks to proactively preparing enough chemicals, vaccines, and equipment, epidemic prevention work in the area is also guaranteed to be safe.

Along with expertise, My Tu Regional Medical Center always attaches importance to improving medical ethics and service attitude. Two communication skills training courses for 100 staff members have significantly changed the way medical staff interact with people. Codes of conduct are widely implemented, linked to surprise inspections and year-end evaluations. "Two minutes of gentle explanation is more valuable than ten minutes of technical work. Patients come here not only for treatment, they need to be reassured," a head nurse shared.

Major goal: To be a satellite hospital of a higher level specialized hospital

From a medical center mainly performing basic care, My Tu Regional Medical Center is aiming to master many advanced techniques, especially in the fields of Oncology, Surgery and Obstetrics and will be a satellite hospital of Can Tho City Oncology Hospital. Dr. Duong Minh Tri, Director of My Tu Regional Medical Center, said: After implementing a 2-level local government and becoming a type 2 autonomous medical unit, we faced countless difficulties, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, overcoming the challenges, the center's staff are making efforts every day to change, gradually meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of local people. The center is researching a project to become a satellite unit of Can Tho City Oncology Hospital to "share the burden" in treating cancer patients in the city.

My Tu Regional Medical Center, Can Tho City is "changing its skin" thanks to a series of techniques transferred from higher levels. From diagnosis to treatment, medical advances have helped people feel secure in receiving treatment right at home, without the burden of traveling far.

Strengthening the line management and receiving techniques from the upper level helps the Center's medical staff confidently deploy more new services. This is not only a transfer of techniques, but also a journey to improve the medical level of the river region.

The changes at My Tu Regional Medical Center are not a sudden step forward, but the result of many years of silent efforts: each training course, each mastered technique creates trust in patients.

And the biggest thing they have done is to keep the people's trust, so that people in the canal area know that: "Medical examination near home is still good, still safe".
