Beautiful impressions of the host country of SEA Games 32

Báo Bình DươngBáo Bình Dương06/05/2023

Always smiling, always apologizing when supporting reporters, athletes, coaches from other countries attending the 32nd SEA Games... Those are the good impressions that the host country Cambodia has made in the first days of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games .

Reporter Thai Hai of Binh Duong Newspaper (right cover) was supported by volunteers from the host country Cambodia to print his press card very quickly and quite friendly.

As usual, when each SEA Games takes place, the necessary condition for the members to participate in the tournament to be qualified to work and compete is the card for each department. For reporters, the press card is extremely important. Because when having it in hand, reporters can easily enter training locations, press centers (MPC), competition venues, etc. In addition, the press card also replaces the passport when going out if there is a need to present it to the management agency of the host country.

With so many features packed into one card, Vietnamese reporters always want to get it before setting foot in Cambodia. At the 32nd SEA Games, card registration was announced 3 months in advance and 2 weeks before the tournament took place, the Organizing Committee began sending cards to the countries for reporters to pick up. However, due to the large number of registrations, there were shortcomings in the printing process. The writer himself, although having registered quite early, also fell into a similar situation. Through the Vietnam Olympic Committee, I received a notification that my card information was already on the system and that I would just go to Cambodia and MPC to have it printed.

Not only me, many of my colleagues are in the same situation and many members of other delegations are also in the same situation. Since April 26, when the delegations started going to Cambodia, the MPC of SEA Games 32 has been almost overloaded because there are too many people needing to print cards. I also received a notice that my card will not be available until around May 3.

Putting aside the fact that I didn’t have a card, I still went to work and reported on U22 Vietnam. At the places I went, the security guards still asked where my card was. After I explained that the other country hadn’t printed it for me yet, they happily invited me in and created the best conditions for me and other colleagues from Vietnam to work most conveniently.

On time, I went to the press center and met Mr. Chhun Paulen as scheduled. After waiting for about 15 minutes, my card was printed and this lovely volunteer also helped the group of Vietnamese reporters waiting for the card to be printed to activate the card. This incident was beyond the expectations of the host country of this year's SEA Games. But in many different ways, Cambodia has impressed its friends in the Southeast Asian region with its openness to learning. Hopefully, the 32nd SEA Games will take place smoothly and be a great success.
