On March 28, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) coordinated with Dien Bien province to summarize the implementation of the Project to mobilize and support the construction of Great Solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province towards the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).
Attending the Conference were: Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Committee Truong Thi Mai - Head of the Central Steering Committee to celebrate major holidays and important historical events of the country in 3 years (2023-2025); Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia; Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong - Head of the Steering Committee for implementing the Project to mobilize support for building Great Solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province.
Efforts to accompany people to realize their dreams
Reporting on the campaign to support the construction of Great Solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Hoang Cong Thuy said: The campaign to support the construction of Great Solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province is a particularly meaningful program, not only a social security activity, but for the Vietnam Fatherland Front, it is also a practical action to welcome the Congresses of the Fronts at all levels and the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2024-2029.
“To achieve the goal of completing 5,000 houses with Dien Bien province before the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (before May 7, 2024), the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have directed strongly, held weekly meetings, implemented many solutions to call for, mobilize, and urge organizations and individuals to participate in support; coordinated with the Ministry of Information and Communications to deploy 4 rounds of sending text messages to millions of mobile subscribers to call for support; guided and urged ministries, branches, localities, and member organizations to launch and call for support from all walks of life,” Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy informed.
To date, the program has raised over 278 billion VND in support.
Of which, 62/62 provinces and cities donated 133.3 billion VND, of which Hanoi donated 15 billion VND; civil servants, public employees, and workers of ministries, branches, and central agencies donated 10.9 billion VND; member organizations of the Front mobilized and donated 17.8 billion VND; organizations, religions, collectives, and individuals donated 17.42 billion VND; banks and credit institutions donated 48.3 billion VND; corporations and enterprises donated 50.24 billion VND. There have been tens of thousands of personal accounts voluntarily contributing and supporting with many meaningful messages.
On the basis of completing the target of 5,000 houses for Dien Dien province, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has allocated the next phase to 5 localities in the Northwest region (including Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai) each province 100 houses, worth 5 billion VND.
Regarding the results of the implementation of building Great Solidarity houses for poor households, Standing Deputy Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee Mua A Son said that in response to the call of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Steering Committee for the implementation of Project 09 of the province received and allocated 250 billion VND to support the building of Great Solidarity houses for 5,000 poor and near-poor households in the area.
In addition, organizations, businesses, officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers in the area participated in supporting the construction of Great Solidarity houses with a total amount of more than 4.6 billion VND. In addition to the support from the Project, households proactively mobilized and borrowed from family, relatives, and borrowed capital from preferential housing programs of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies and joint-stock commercial banks with a total amount of 166 billion VND.
With the participation of the entire political system and the people, after 9 months of implementation, by January 24, 2024, 5,000 houses were completed and handed over for use before the Lunar New Year. Of these, 1,818 houses were built, 1,894 were traditional wooden houses, and 1,288 were made of iron frames, all of which were of guaranteed quality, with a minimum area of 36 square meters. The total cost of house construction was VND 489.4 billion. After receiving support for house construction from the Project, 1,132 households escaped poverty.
Help the poor have a better life
Speaking at the Conference, Standing member of the Secretariat Truong Thi Mai highly appreciated the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the leaders of Dien Bien province for their initiative to mobilize people from all walks of life nationwide to support the Great Solidarity House Building Program for poor households in Dien Bien province, opening a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. This demonstrates practical gratitude, profound humanitarian spirit, and support for the people of all ethnic groups in the place that 70 years ago was the focus of the Dien Dien Phu campaign.
From the experience of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the Project of building Great Solidarity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province and continuing to support poor households in 5 provinces of Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai each with 5 billion VND to continue implementing the program for the entire Northwest region, the Standing Committee of the Secretariat proposed: The Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front continues to coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to launch and implement the Program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses", contributing to many other disadvantaged households in the country having better homes.
Emphasizing that in just over a month, the event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory will be held, the Standing Secretariat hopes that central agencies, Dien Bien province and localities in the region will focus on leading and directing this celebration activity, focusing on the State-level celebration activity on May 7, 2024.
“The important thing is that after 70 years, coming to Dien Bien and the Northwestern provinces, we must see the lives of ethnic minorities getting better every day. That improvement must be closely linked to the country’s development goals,” Ms. Truong Thi Mai emphasized, hoping that Dien Bien province will continue to develop its socio-economy, ensure national defense and security, improve people’s lives, and build a clean and strong Party and political system.
At the Conference, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front awarded the Medal "For the cause of Great National Unity" to Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong - Head of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the Project to mobilize support for building Great Unity houses for poor households in Dien Bien province; awarded Certificates of Merit to 6 collectives and 13 individuals of Dien Bien province for their outstanding achievements in implementing the Project.
Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee also awarded the Badge "For the cause of building and developing Dien Bien province" to individuals with many achievements contributing to the cause of building and developing the province; The Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing Project 09, contributing to socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction in the area.
