Meeting with the Russian delegation attending the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum

On the afternoon of October 1 in Hanoi, Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, had a friendly meeting with the Russian Federation delegation attending the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Do Van Chien welcomed the Russian delegation to visit and work in Vietnam and attend the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum, considering this an important event, contributing to enhancing understanding, traditional friendship and people-to-people cooperation between the two countries.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, Fatherland Front and people of Vietnam, Mr. Do Van Chien expressed his deep respect to the government and people of Saint Petersburg for their special feelings for Vietnam and the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Saint Petersburg.

He expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome of the Russian government and people to the Vietnamese delegation, especially the visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly to the Russian Federation and Saint Petersburg city.

The Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also affirmed that generations of Vietnamese people always remember the kind-hearted Russian people and the wholehearted and righteous help of the former Soviet Union and the present-day Russian Federation for the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Vietnam is implementing a multilateral, diversified, independent and self-reliant diplomatic strategy, with three pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. The relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation and the city of Saint Petersburg is a very good one.

Mr. Do Van Chien highly appreciated the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) for coordinating with Saint Petersburg partners to organize the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum. This is a very meaningful activity, contributing to deepening the friendship between the people of the two countries and proposing many new directions for people-to-people diplomacy.

According to him, Vietnam has made remarkable progress. In 1986, when implementing the renovation policy, Vietnam was one of the poorest countries in the world, lacking food. However, after 40 years, Vietnam has ensured food security and become one of the world's leading rice exporting countries, with an output of about 8 million tons.

Currently, Vietnam has risen to 32nd place in the world in terms of economic scale, and is among the 20 countries with the largest trade in the world. People's lives are constantly improving. By 2025, Vietnam will complete the goal of eliminating all temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households. One of Vietnam's great strengths is the people's hearts and trust, connecting ideas and the strength of the Party and the country.

He believes that VUFO will promote its role and mission to connect and effectively carry out cooperation activities between the people of the two countries and social organizations of the two countries.

At the meeting, VUFO President Phan Anh Son reported to President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien the outstanding results of the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum in Vietnam.

Some delegates shared their opinions, showing their enthusiasm and high responsibility to promote the relationship between the two countries and specific areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

Mr. Evgeny Grigoriev, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Saint Petersburg City, Head of the Russian Federation delegation attending the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum, emphasized the traditional friendship between Saint Petersburg City and Vietnam in 1923, when leader Nguyen Ai Quoc set foot in Petrograd City, now Saint Petersburg, on his journey to find a way to save the country.

In 2023, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's first visit to Petrograd, the Saint Petersburg city government coordinated with the Vietnamese side to organize the inauguration ceremony of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh - a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

Mr. Evgeny Grigoriev said that Vietnam is currently a priority direction in the foreign affairs activities of Saint Petersburg city, always valuing trustworthy and sincere cooperation with VUFO.

He affirmed that the first Vietnam-Russia People's Forum is a meaningful activity for people's organizations, unions, intellectuals and businesses of the two countries to strengthen connections and jointly contribute to consolidating the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
