Nghe An soldiers in the September 2 parade

Towards the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2, Ba Dinh Square (Hanoi) will witness a large-scale military parade, gathering tens of thousands of cadres, soldiers and representatives of all walks of life. In that majestic formation, there are many children from Nghe An - a land rich in revolutionary traditions, which has always produced generations of loyal young people, ready to dedicate themselves to the Fatherland.

From childhood memories to military career

Lieutenant Trinh Xuan Tho - officer of A Dot Border Guard Station (Thua Thien Hue Border Guard Command), is one of the typical faces participating in the parade on this occasion.

Meeting us after the second General Training session at Ba Dinh Square, Tho proudly mentioned his hometown. “I was born in Cua Lo, Nghe An - a coastal area full of vitality and also a land imbued with revolutionary spirit,” Tho said.

The border guard added that since childhood, Tho was nurtured in stories told by his grandmother and mother about Uncle Ho and the traditions of his homeland. Those simple memories soon ignited in him the flame of patriotism, urging him to choose the military path.

In 2017, he enlisted and began his military career at the Border Guard Training Center. After days of arduous training, Tho was determined to pursue a long-term military career, studying at the TC2 Reconnaissance College to become a professional officer.

When assigned to participate in the parade, Lieutenant Tho considered it a great honor. He said that during the training days in the hot and humid Northern sun of July, the ground temperature reached 60 degrees Celsius, sweat soaked the shirts, but the whole unit tried to overcome it. The soldiers often encouraged each other: "Today's sweat is tomorrow's pride."

In the Navy, there is the presence of Captain Ho Van Tam, working at Brigade 680, Naval Region 3. Born in the sunny and windy Central region, Tam grew up with military stories from his father - a former navy soldier. The images of ships sailing offshore and remote islands were deeply imprinted in his childhood memories, and then became the motivation for him to put on the white uniform of a marine soldier.

Participating in the naval officer standing block in the parade, Tam was clearly aware of his responsibility. For nearly 10 months of intensive training away from home, behind him was his young wife and family who always encouraged and gave him spiritual strength.

Tam shared that during the hot days in Son Tay, standing at attention for 4-5 hours, our bodies ached and were numb, only our willpower helped us overcome. Our teammates reminded each other: If someone falls, someone will catch them, if the person in front falls, the person behind will move forward.

“The standing group often joked, standing at attention so that ants can't scratch, and girls can't look when they pass by. It's true that you have to be like that during training to be able to be so brave,” Tam said.

During the training days, Tam still remembers the bottles of water and bunches of sweet longan that people gave to the soldiers. The marine said that it was a bond and support between the rear and the frontline during the training days.

The Fatherland always comes first

In the same unit as Ho Van Tam is Senior Lieutenant, Professional Soldier Phan Ba Lam, belonging to the artillery unit of the Navy. Lam grew up in the harsh Lao windy countryside of Central Vietnam. The image of a Navy soldier guarding the sea and islands has long been a symbol in his heart, urging him to choose to devote his life to the military.

Talking about his feelings when he was called to participate in the A80 mission, Senior Lieutenant Lam's eyes lit up with pride. However, shortly after, his face became sad again. He boasted that his wife had just given birth to their second child, but he had not yet returned to attend the child's first month celebration. However, for him, responsibility to the Fatherland always came first.

Senior Lieutenant, Professional Soldier Phan Ba Lam said that during training, the biggest difficulty was the erratic weather, but the whole unit overcame it together. After training, soldiers from all three regions considered each other as brothers, sharing every glass of water, every family concern, turning difficulties into deep comradeship.

The parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day is not only an occasion to commemorate the contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and our predecessors, but also to affirm the strength of national unity in the new period.

In that lineup, the sons of Nghe An such as Lieutenant Trinh Xuan Tho, Captain Ho Van Tam or Senior Lieutenant Phan Ba Lam not only represent their homeland, but are also typical images of the young generation of Vietnam: nurtured in tradition, matured in training and ready to shoulder the tasks assigned by the Fatherland.

Every step through Ba Dinh Square on September 2nd will be a reminder of the 80-year history of fighting to build and defend the country, and at the same time a message to international friends: Vietnam is always steadfast in its goals of independence, peace, and development.
