In the history of Vietnamese painting, there has never been a mural as large and magnificent as the " Dien Bien Phu Campaign" at the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum.
The bronze painting depicts the typical historical moments of the greatest military campaign in Vietnam's struggle for national independence, ending 9 years of arduous resistance, bringing peace to half of the country, praising the indomitable spirit of the nation, in the tradition of defending and building the country, with many generations and classes of people, in the great battle, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
The work is the result of the creative labor of a group consisting of many members: Painters, Architects, Sculptors, Musicians, technical experts... The key authors are people with extensive experience in various fields, including Sculptor Ta Quang Bao; Vu Dai Binh, and a number of young artists such as: Nguyen Van Nghia; Pham Quang Thuan; Dinh Ngoc Tu; Ngo Van Nhuong...
The process of making the painting
The painting is painted with oil paint on canvas, is a work of art with sustainable materials, a work with typical imagery that is condensed on blocks and blocks. Concealed in all the work are educational, cultural, historical, political , and high artistic values, concisely expressing the Dien Bien Phu victory "famous in five continents, shaking the earth". The fine art is painted on canvas hugging the circle of the wall in a 360-degree space with a height of 20.5m, a length of 132m, with 4,500 characters and mountain landscapes, fierce battles... are realistically and vividly portrayed by the artists on the painting from documentary films, and thousands of photos kept in museums, historical research institutes, national archives... creating a picture of a military campaign, a monumental history shown for the first time in Vietnam.
The foot of the painting is a relief made of synthetic materials, an area of nearly 1,000 m2 running along the length of the painting, skillfully combining the fine art and the art of arranging the artifacts, making the overall painting inseparable. That is also the success of the group of authors in making the painting more vivid, giving the viewer the feeling of being drawn in, as if going into it.
The lighting arrangement in the Panorama space is also one of the highly artistic elements. To create maximum effect for the painting, the lighting system of hundreds of LED bulbs is evenly distributed and hidden under the projection platforms. Above the ceiling is arranged to transition from the sky with the war color at the time of the battle, to the sky with the blue color of peace at the present time, raised to 3 ceiling levels. The lighting system is cleverly arranged between the slots of these ceiling levels, ensuring both aesthetics and lighting for the entire space.
The Panorama painting “Dien Bien Phu campaign” is an epic of great victory, marking an important turning point in the history of the Vietnamese nation, a tribute and honor from the Fatherland and the People to those who have sacrificed and contributed their strength, talent and intelligence in the cause of defending the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and the cause of building a socialist Vietnam. At the same time, it is also a message to the present and future generations to join hands in preserving, protecting and promoting the value of the nation's cultural heritage.
