Although it is a familiar program to audiences every Tet holiday for the past 20 years, there are interesting details about "Tao Quan" that not everyone knows.

After more than 20 years on air, the Tao Quan program has undergone many changes and innovations. Many interesting things about the program have been forgotten by the audience, or perhaps unknown.

Tao Quan was originally just a short skit.

First aired in 2003, Tao Quan originated from the program Meet at the Weekend produced by VFC - Television Film Production Center (Vietnam Television).

The creators of this program had the idea of making the Year-end Meeting to summarize the issues raised in the program and Tao Quan is just a small skit within the overall program.

Southern artists who participated in Tao Quan

Besides the veteran artists who have been with Tao Quan for 20 years, the program has had "new elements" from the South participating.

In 2015, Tao Quan marked the participation of two southern comedians, Viet Huong and the late artist Chi Tai, for the first time. At that time, Viet Huong shared that she had to cancel all her shows in the US to accept the invitation to participate in the program. Even Viet Huong’s husband and children had to cancel their plane tickets to wait for her to finish her work in Tao Quan before flying back to the US.

Two handsome singers once played the role of Thien Loi

The character Thien Loi – the gatekeeper of heaven is always the factor that brings laughter to the audience of Tao Quan every year. Up to now, this role has changed 8 actors.

In 2004, Thien Loi was played by artist Phu Don. After that, actor Tran Binh Trong continued to play the role in 2008, 2009, 2011. He is also the person who played Thien Loi the most times.

In 2013, the role of Thien Loi attracted attention when it was assigned to singer Minh Quan. He did not hesitate to make his face ugly and invested quite carefully in costumes, makeup, and acting. After that, the male singer played the role of assistant Thien Loi twice more in 2015 and 2016.

In 2014, the role of Thien Loi still kept the "burnt black" appearance, but this role was played by musician Tien Minh.

In 2017, the role of Thien Loi was played by young actor Manh Dung (Dung Hon). Most recently, in 2022, the young actor duo Viet Bac and Manh Dung took on this position.

How can the audience forget the 2009 Tao Quan Flower Contest – the script was based on the Miss Vietnam contest. In 2011, Tao Idol appeared based on the Vietnam Idol program.

In 2013, the script was inspired by the show The Voice of Vietnam. In 2015, Who is a millionaire and Magic Hat – Corruption Wheel were the stories that appeared in Tao Quan 2016.
