5 REAL-LIFE PROBLEMS
Regarding the 10th grade math exam in Ho Chi Minh City, teacher Nguyen Binh Minh Tu, Head of the Math Group at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Binh Thanh District) advised students to start with practical problems with the part of calling hidden x, y, because according to teacher Tu, many students call this part wrongly, leading to solving the system of equations with no points. "Students have learned from grade 8 the type of equation-setting problem, but this type of problem always makes them afraid, so it is easier to get tired when encountering this type of practical problem. Many students are afraid right from the reading part because the problem is too long. Therefore, students need to read the problem carefully, call hidden x, y carefully, and follow the correct path from easy to difficult problems," teacher Tu instructed.
Grade 9 students in Ho Chi Minh City will take the grade 10 entrance exam this week.

In addition, practical math problems also involve geometry. To solve these practical problems, in addition to knowing the formula, students must understand and analyze the requirements of the problem and analyze the elements of spatial geometry.
Practical problems have questions related to functions. This is a simple practical problem, but students often lose points due to incorrect determination of the quantity of a first-degree function or incorrect substitution of the formula.
In the 5 practical problems, students will usually be able to do the first 2 questions (questions 3 and 4) because these 2 questions have a moderate level of difficulty, the practical material included in the test is simple, students only need to create a system of equations/simple equations. The remaining 3 questions, the practical material included in the test requires students to have analysis and thinking skills to understand the problem.
With question 8, geometry section, question a is easy to get points, but students often lose points because of confusing the signs to recognize inscribed quadrilaterals, from one sign to another, and presenting arguments without evidence. In addition, another mistake is that students are often subjective and write the wrong angle symbol - this is a very basic mistake.
Teacher Tu reminded students to prepare all the necessary study tools, including a ruler, compass, and parabola. When doing the basic knowledge sections in the exam, students need to pay attention to the presentation because these sections do not require high thinking, only careful presentation. With the geometry section, if the drawing is wrong, the paper will not be graded. Therefore, students must pay attention to drawing the figure very carefully.
Why are there students with good academic performance but low results?
From now until the 10th grade exam, you should allocate your rest time reasonably, take care of your health, and pay attention to your diet. When studying, review your knowledge, review your common mistakes so that when you do the test, you can carefully do the parts you are sure of, helping you get full marks.
At the same time, carefully prepare all kinds of papers, pens, and study tools for the exam subjects. Before the exam, you should not eat too much or drink too much water to keep the best mood in the exam room, be confident and comfortable when doing the test to avoid anxiety and instability.
When doing the test, you must be very careful and calm. Do it on scratch paper first, then write it on the test. Do not rush or be subjective, because in reality there are many students with very good learning ability but because of subjectivity, the test results are not high.

AVOID LOSS OF POINTS IN LITERATURE
According to Master Tran Tien Thanh, a literature specialist at the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the reading comprehension section, the selected texts can be argumentative, informative, literary, scientific ... The questions are organized according to levels of thinking from easy to difficult, from recognition, understanding to analysis, inference and evaluation, application.
Therefore, when answering reading comprehension questions, candidates need to read the entire text to grasp the content. Answer briefly and clearly according to the requirements of the question. Avoid unnecessary rambling and lengthiness.
In the social argumentative essay, candidates should write about 500 words (one and a half pages of exam paper) and ensure the argumentative essay structure with introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction states the problem, the body develops the problem, and the conclusion concludes the problem.
In the literary essay writing section, with topic 1, students analyze and perceive a specific work or excerpt from a work in the textbook. From there, point out the influence and impact of the work on themselves or relate it to another work, relate it to real life to draw a literary or life issue. In topic 2, with a specific situation, students use knowledge and experience in the reading process (choose a work/excerpt) to solve that situation.
Master Tran Tien Thanh also pointed out errors and limitations for students to pay attention to when taking the 10th grade exam. These errors include paraphrasing the work; writing lacking emotion due to little reading, little thinking, and possibly due to rote learning. Not understanding the requirements of the question, mechanically rewriting the content learned.
In addition, Master Thanh also pointed out some reasons that affect students' work such as unreasonable time allocation for sections and questions; not reading the questions carefully, leading to answers that are not focused, or answers that are long-winded and redundant; sloppy presentation and writing, difficult to read; incomplete work (due to being too absorbed in writing about one idea, leading to forgetting to conclude or concluding too hastily).
The mistakes and limitations of students when taking the literature exam are paraphrasing the work; the essay lacks emotion due to little reading, little thinking, or maybe due to rote learning...

MISTAKES STUDENTS OFTEN MAKE IN ENGLISH
According to Master Tran Dinh Nguyen Lu, an English specialist at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, out of the 40 questions in the English exam, the differentiation questions will focus mainly on reading comprehension and sentence rewriting. The recognition level in the exam accounts for about 6 points; from 6 to 7.5 points is comprehension; from 7.5 to 9.25 points is application; the remaining 0.75 points is high application (accounting for 3 questions) with 5 to 7% of the knowledge in the exam. The knowledge, topics, main points, and vocabulary in the exam are all familiar to students and are part of the curriculum they have learned.
The test focuses more on skills and vocabulary, not grammar. Therefore, during the test, students will use their vocabulary and understanding to apply in specific situations. Although the grammar part of the test is quite easy, students must grasp the basic grammar that the teacher has equipped them with during the study process in order to do well on the test.
English experts note that when doing the essay questions, students often make many mistakes in parts such as Word Forms/Sentence transformation. While according to the regulations, when making a mistake, even just a small mistake in sentence writing or spelling, the candidate will lose all points for that question. Therefore, candidates must be very careful to avoid losing points regrettably.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7 with the subjects of literature, foreign language, math and specialized/integrated subjects (if candidates register for specialized/integrated 10th grade).
It is expected that about 98,600 candidates will take the 10th grade exam at 160 exam sites (including 150 regular 10th grade exam sites and 10 specialized 10th grade exam sites).
According to regulations, on June 5, candidates must be present at the examination location stated on the registration form to check information and listen to instructions on the 10th grade exam regulations. Candidates must bring the following identification documents: Registration form (with photo attached); Birth certificate (photocopy, no need to be notarized) to compare records; Student ID card or health insurance card or CCCD with chip.
Students in Hanoi will take the 10th grade exam on June 8, 9 and 10 with 3 subjects: literature, math, foreign language, and specialized subjects for students taking the specialized exam. In the 2023-2024 school year, it is expected that the whole city of Hanoi will have about 133,000 students taking the secondary school graduation exam. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training plans to enroll about 60% of the total number of secondary school graduates in grade 10 at public schools.
