1. In the first years of its establishment, the Front had different names: Anti-Imperialist Alliance (1930), Anti-Imperialist Alliance (1935), Anti-Imperialist People's United Front (1936), Indochinese Democratic United Front (1938), Anti-Imperialist National United Front (1939) to gather and unite all classes and strata in society to fight against the reactionary colonial regime, against war, to demand peace , freedom, democracy and food, to advance to liberate the nation from the yoke of colonial domination.
2. After that, the birth of the Viet Minh Front on May 19, 1941 became a brilliant milestone of the Vietnam National United Front. The Vietnam Independence League, abbreviated as Viet Minh, was born, with the Declaration, Program and Charter of a specific Front organization, deciding to use the red flag with a five-pointed yellow star as the flag of the Viet Minh Front. On May 7, 1944, the Viet Minh General Department issued a Directive on preparing for the uprising.
The National Congress held in Tan Trao in August 1945 passed the uprising order, took the red flag with yellow star (Viet Minh flag) as the national flag, the song Tien Quan Ca as the national anthem, and elected the Vietnam National Liberation Committee. That was an exemplary period of national unity, the spirit of unity of all people as one created the strength to gain national independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.
3. The Vietnam National Union was established in May 1946 to strengthen the gathering of forces, contribute to preventing and dividing reactionary political parties, and propagate and mobilize people to participate in production movements, famine relief, rice savings jars, etc.
On March 3, 1951, the national congress unified two front organizations: the Viet Minh Front and the Lien Viet Association into the Lien Viet Front. After 9 years of resistance, the Lien Viet Front became "One of the pillars of the People's Democratic State, the boundless strength of the resistance and nation building; a broad mass base forming a solid armor of the Party to defeat the invaders and their henchmen".
4. After the Dien Bien Phu victory, on September 10, 1955, the National United Front Congress held in Hanoi decided to establish the Vietnam Fatherland Front. The Congress adopted the Platform to unite all national, democratic and peaceful forces throughout the country to prepare for a new resistance war, to fight for national unification and to build and consolidate peace in the North.
5. Along with the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the North, in response to the revolutionary demands in the South, on December 20, 1960, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was born with the Liberation flag and the Front's song was the Liberation of the South. The National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was born to form a broad national front that gathered all national, democratic and peaceful forces, uniting all classes and components in society to fight together for the cause of national liberation.
6. Since the country's reunification, three organizations: the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, and the Alliance of Vietnamese National, Democratic and Peace Forces, have been merged and named the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front continues to perform its role and tasks in the new situation, consolidating the great national unity bloc, building a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The role and position of the Front have been increasingly demonstrated in the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in the Party Platform and the Front Law.
