“Joining hands to eliminate temporary houses” is a national program and has received high consensus from all walks of life. In Binh Thuan, the movement of contributions to build houses for poor and disadvantaged households has spread widely. Enterprises, well-off households, and pagodas through associations and organizations have actively contributed to help many families have houses to protect them from the sun and rain. The Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers is one of the units that mobilized contributions from benefactors to build hundreds of houses for the poor and disadvantaged in the province. In a temporary house, Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Hoa, a member of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers in Binh Son village, Binh Tan commune (Bac Binh), is 78 years old this year but has to live with her disabled child and a sick grandchild. Life is very difficult because there is only one main worker in the family, Ms. Hoa is old and bedridden. “There is a lack of food, let alone repairing the house...” - Ms. Hoa said in tears. Witnessing the difficult situation of her comrades, Ms. Vu Thi Ngoc Lien - Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Veterans Association, discussed with Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An - Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association to organize a call for donations to build a house for Ms. Hoa... In early May, we followed the donors to repair Ms. Hoa's house. The reason the donors went to check the situation was because they heard that Ms. Hoa's house was finished, but lacked about 5 million VND to tile the floor, the group went to know how to support more. The new house is about 50 square meters with 3 rooms, the outside is painted green and looks quite nice, the inside is in the final stage of flooring but due to lack of money, it has to be temporarily stopped, so the inside of the house looks quite messy. Ms. Hoa has been lying in bed for many months and cannot move, but when she met her comrade, Ms. Lien, her spirit was greatly lifted. Mrs. Hoa wiped away her tears and said: “I was so happy to meet Ms. Lien and Mr. An. After so many years of separation, I knew that she had helped many people. I felt that I was old and weak so I didn’t want to bother her. But when she heard the news, she came to visit and through the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers, Binh Tan Commune mobilized to repair the house, so I felt healthier. From being bedridden, I can now walk again and have a new house, so I am so happy beyond words”...

In village 1, La Da commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, Mrs. Bo Dam Thi Phich is a former Youth Volunteer Soldier who belongs to a poor household living in a temporary house. When the commune and the Association of Former Youth Volunteer Soldiers built a new house for her, she choked up and shared: "When I was young, I wholeheartedly followed the Party to join the resistance war in the forest and was used to deprivation. Now it is difficult, but I do not ask for anything because many people are in more difficult circumstances than me. The commune and the Association of Former Youth Volunteer Soldiers of the province built a house for me, I am very happy". In the same difficult situation as Mrs. Phich, in La Da, there is a household of Mrs. Bo Dam Thi Vung, who was also called by the Association of Former Youth Volunteer Soldiers of the province to build a new house. When the delegation came to the house handover ceremony, Mrs. Vung was so happy that she could only cry. During the whole ceremony that day, she could only say one sentence: "Thank you very much"... These are 3 of hundreds of households in the province that have new houses that the Association of Former Youth Volunteer Soldiers of the province has supported with money to build houses for members of the Association of Former Youth Volunteer Soldiers and poor households with housing difficulties. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An - Chairman of the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers, said: The association's operating budget is quite limited, but in return, the Association of Former Youth Volunteers is trusted by many benefactors, so every year the association builds houses for former members of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers and poor households with housing difficulties. Up to now, the association has contributed to building and repairing more than 300 houses for former members of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers and poor households with housing difficulties in the province...

To mobilize sponsorship from benefactors, Ms. Vu Thi Ngoc Lien and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An were the two "locomotives" who went to the locality to learn about the difficult circumstances, worked with the village, commune, and local association members, then presented to the benefactors about specific cases to discuss the plan and funding for building the house. Mr. An said: "The main sponsors" for the house building were relatives in the family and some individuals and organizations such as Ms. Nguyen Thi Sau - Standing Member of the Standing Committee of the Ham Thuan Bac Association of Former Youth Volunteers; monk Thich Trung Tan in Suoi Nuoc quarter, Mui Ne; Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen living in Mui Ne; representative of Mui Ne Museum of Antiquities...

Not only stopping at calling for support for building houses in the program "Joining hands to eliminate temporary houses" launched by the Central and the province, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers also mobilized benefactors to contribute to giving gifts to disadvantaged households in remote areas of the province. Recently, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Binh Thuan, the Liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers and benefactors presented 130 gifts to members and disadvantaged families in Phu Lac and Vinh Hao communes (Tuy Phong district) as a gratitude to those who have contributed to the country, and at the same time shared some of the difficulties with poor households...
