The people who opened the "energy source" for the country
In the middle of the vast Northeast, where the mountains and forests of Quang Ninh are so dense, there are still people who "stick" to the forest, the drilling rig, and their jobs day and night, quietly searching for coal seams deep underground. They are party members, engineers, and workers of the Mining Geology Joint Stock Company - TKV - the silent "scout" paving the way for the Vietnamese Coal industry on its journey to conquer the country's energy source.

Imbued with the spirit of Resolution 10-NQ/TW of the Politburo on strategy of geology, minerals and mining industry, mining geologists understand that exploratory drilling must be “one step ahead”. On average, each year, they carry out 40,000-50,000 meters of drilling, building huts in the middle of the forest, holding the drill bit in the harsh rain and sun, venturing into the deep forest. In the silence of the great forest, the sound of the drilling machine resounds regularly like the heartbeat of the earth. Each meter of drilling adds to the belief, a silent contribution to the energy source that nurtures the sustainable development of the country.
Drilling Unit No. 20 is located precariously halfway up a hill in Cao Xanh Ward, where the wind blows fiercely all year round and the rocks and soil are precarious. This is one of the most remote and arduous drilling units, as the geologists have to stay there day and night to ensure the progress of the exploration drilling, while also straining to prevent landslides because the drill bit is close to the mountainside. After more than ten years in the profession, young party member Le Thai Son is still steadfast on each step of the drilling tower. Amidst the mountain wind and forest mist, he and his teammates quietly contribute to finding coal for the Fatherland, always persistent, responsible and burning with the spirit of a party member of the Mining Region. “Each drilling tower is about 13 meters high, our work is always associated with height, between mountain winds and scorching sun. Despite many dangers, we still coordinate smoothly, reinforcing each joint so that the drilling tower is always stable in all weather conditions,” Mr. Son shared. Drilling Team No. 20, led by Mr. Bui Van Bang, was assigned to construct a 1,200 meter deep borehole at the Ha Rang mine. Despite the complex geological conditions, unstable strata and frequent water exposure, after more than 3 months of working at the construction site, the team completed more than 840 meters of drilling. These drill bits are an important basis for the Hon Gai Coal Company to accurately determine reserves, serving the Ha Rang mine expansion underground mining project.
With the goal of bringing the drill bit deep into the ground, the geologists always work in the spirit of "eating quickly, sleeping urgently", sticking to the drilling rig in the sun and wind, diligently operating exploration equipment in the harsh conditions of the Mining Area. To keep the drill bit running smoothly, workers carefully mix the appropriate drilling fluid for each geological layer.
The team of workers carefully dropped the inserts, an important step to help take drill samples, serving to accurately assess the geological structure at each depth. When encountering complex geological layers, drilling team No. 20 immediately met on-site to discuss solutions, ensuring safety and construction progress. For them, every decision, every drill was imbued with Uncle Ho's teachings: "All for the common goal, contributing to producing a lot of coal for the Fatherland." At each different geological layer, the drilling team must carefully calculate to choose the appropriate type of drill bit, ensuring efficiency and safety during construction.
On the drilling site, lacking in every way, workers still diligently trek through the forest, follow the rocky slopes to find streams of water leading to the drilling rig to serve production and daily life. Amidst the steep mountain slopes, many sections of the road are inaccessible to trucks, so the group of workers had to trek through forests, wade through streams, and transport equipment and materials to the location of Drilling Team No. 14.
After being taken from the ground, the drill samples are carefully transported, preserved and arranged in the correct position by workers to serve geological analysis.
After 12 noon, under the scorching sun of the hill, a hasty meal was served right at the foot of the drilling tower. For them, “eating quickly and sleeping quickly” had become a habit, a short but precious time to regain strength for the afternoon shift. After lunch, Drilling Team 14 leader Nguyen Ngoc Tuan chose a corner to rest, took the opportunity to call his family and the rear at home; creating more motivation to continue to stick to the forest, stick to the drilling rig, stick to work, and search for coal seams deep underground.
