After retiring, Mr. Do Xuan Uyen (second from left), former Chief of the Office of the Propaganda Department of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee, became Secretary of the Party Cell of Residential Area No. 15, Hai Tan Ward (Hai Duong City). In the photo: Mr. Uyen represented the residential area to receive congratulatory flowers from the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Hai Duong City at the ceremony to receive the certificate of recognition as a cultural residential area.

Retired cadre becomes Party cell secretary

Residential area No. 15 (Ecorivers urban area, Hai Tan ward, Hai Duong city) was newly established in February 2023 and is a residential area with many differences from scale, population characteristics to infrastructure.

Mr. Do Van Uyen, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Residential Area No. 15, was formerly the Chief of the Office of the Propaganda Department of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee and has worked in many fields. An official who has worked for the Provincial Party Committee for nearly 20 years, when he was given a break, he still did not hesitate to accept the task in the residential area, demonstrating the high sense of responsibility of a Party member towards the common work.

Looking at the computer screen he was working on, I was amazed at the amount of work. He said that all 5 comrades in the Party Committee were proficient in using computers and constantly learning to do their jobs well.

Mr. Uyen is usually busy all day with the work of the residential area. In the photo: Mr. Uyen and the staff of the Residential Area Management Board prepare for the meeting on the occasion of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Mr. Uyen said: "During storm No. 3 and many urgent tasks, the Party Committee held meetings or discussed work online. Residential area No. 15 has an area of nearly 110 hectares, with a current population of over 5,000 people. If all of them live there, it will be nearly 12,000 people, not including the upcoming social housing project. If information technology is not applied in leadership, direction and organization, it will be difficult to complete the task."

Listening to him, I was surprised by the many retired officials who have been and are implementing "digitalization" in residential activities.

Following him to the residential area's cultural house, I met the residential area's leaders who were busy preparing for the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The way the festival was decorated and the meeting room was arranged in the residential area's cultural house was both standard and scientific.

Retired, old, limited health, hard work but Mr. Uyen is still happy, trying to promote his existing experience to contribute to completing political and social tasks in the locality, contributing to society, making his retired life more joyful, healthy and useful.

Retired early, returned to tourism with passion

Ms. Pham Hong Hanh, former Head of the Propaganda Department of Tu Ky District Party Committee, felt honored and right to decide to retire early.

Recently, implementing the policy of streamlining the apparatus, a number of cadres and civil servants in Hai Duong voluntarily retired early to facilitate personnel work and create conditions for young people to develop.

Ms. Pham Hong Hanh, former Head of the Propaganda Department of Tu Ky District Party Committee, is one of those officials. Ms. Hanh retired on March 1, but instead of resting, she started a new job in the tourism industry.

After retiring, Ms. Hanh spends time taking care of her family, home and doing extra business.

Nowadays, many people know Ms. Hanh not only as a propaganda officer but also as a dynamic and professional domestic and international tour consultant of Lucky Tour. In addition, she also participates in activities, coordinates with the Hai Duong Tourism Association and cooperates with a number of reputable travel companies to provide quality travel services to customers.

For Ms. Hanh, working now is not for economic reasons but is a source of joy, passion and dedication to her.

Tour consultant is a new job associated with Ms. Hanh's passion and source of joy.

Having set foot in 11 countries around the world, seeing many majestic landscapes in Vietnam, conquering rugged mountains and long running routes, Ms. Hanh is still full of inspiration and passion for traveling. For Ms. Hanh, life is about trips and she wants to spread that passion to everyone.

"Up to now, I still believe that the decision to retire early to serve the streamlined apparatus was the right decision, a great honor. After retiring, I spent time taking care of my family, house and doing extra tour consulting services. When working, I also get to live with my passion, inspire travel, talk and meet many people," Ms. Hanh excitedly said.

Holding in my hand the business card that says "tour consultant Pham Hong Hanh", I see how professional and serious Ms. Hanh is about this job.

Ms. Hanh shared: "Now I work not only for profit but also for passion and prestige as a party member and retired cadre. So I always pay attention in consulting, choosing, and providing relatives, friends, and customers with reputable services and the most worthy experiences possible."

Stay on contract for old agency

In the context of a shortage of human resources, especially experienced people, many agencies and units have invited retired officials, civil servants and public employees to stay and work as contract workers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, former Director of the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education of Nam Sach district, after retirement, still stays to continue to contribute, working as a part-time teacher at the school and teaching literature.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, former Director of the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education of Nam Sach District, retired in August 2022 but has not taken a single day off work. He has stayed at the school as a temporary contract teacher of literature.

As a predestined relationship with the continuing education sector, Mr. Manh has been attached to the profession since 1986 until now, despite going through many difficult and ups and downs.

He still remembers the period from 1980 to 2000 as very difficult years.

At that time, he and his colleagues cycled to communes to teach cadres to popularize high school education. There was a period when he participated in eliminating illiteracy, he also cycled to communes, going to each house to encourage people to go to school. Thinking back, it was no different from teachers in the mountains who encouraged students to go to school.

The years around 1990 were a period of decline for the continuing education sector because there were few students and the school was at risk of closing, and the facilities were still difficult. Many colleagues transferred to other schools, but Mr. Manh still persevered.

In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Director of the center. In 2015, he became Director and retired in 2022.

In addition to directly teaching in class, Mr. Manh enthusiastically supports the leadership of the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education of Nam Sach district.

While he was a leader, he still went to class regularly and taught literature. When he retired, because he loved his job, loved his students, and wanted to support the school, Mr. Manh stayed on as a temporary contract teacher.

Before, when he was teaching extra classes at school, there were times when he could only eat and rest for 30 minutes at noon before going back to class. His salary was meager, only about 90,000 VND/45-minute class.

Despite the difficulties, Mr. Manh is still dedicated and devoted and has not thought about the day he will "really retire".

"Coming to school, meeting students, colleagues and working makes me very happy. When I retired from leadership to become a contract teacher, I clearly determined that I would work, serve and contribute, seriously comply with the management and direction of the school, do a good job of teaching and be ready to support when needed," Mr. Manh shared.

In the current context of teacher shortage, Mr. Manh's dedication has contributed a lot to students, parents and the development of the center.

"Due to the special regulations on staffing quotas for the continuing education sector, although the number of students is increasing, the staffing quota is decreasing day by day. Experienced and dedicated teachers like Mr. Manh who agreed to stay as contract teachers have helped the center a lot. In recent years, Mr. Manh has been in charge of key classes of the school, and the exam results have always been quite high," said Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Director of the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education of Nam Sach district.

Mr. Son also shared that having Mr. Manh at the school is like an expert, a consultant with valuable experience through many years of direct teaching and management work.

Rain or shine, teacher Manh with his silver hair and heavy school bag still regularly goes to class with his students, attached to the beloved blackboard.

Retired people with passion and intelligence have chosen their own fields to continue working in, but they have one thing in common: a high sense of responsibility and the desire to contribute and help life.
